Have prices topped out?

In the last couple of days I've been finding .223/5.56 ammo for up to 30% less than what it was selling for a few months ago. Anybody see any drop in handgun ammo?

Much that was hard to find is now available and prices have improved. This month I bought 1360 rounds of rifle ammo, 100 rds. 00 buck, 4000 bullets, 3 lbs. of gun powder and 4000 primers. If you don't want to start a thread crying about how you can't find ammo and someone bought too many boxes and you didn't get any sometime in the future, then stock up now while things are readily available!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as handgun ammo prices are concerned, they seem silly high (as they have been, or even higher) when I even look. I'm glad I reload.

Prices on FMJ ball rifle ammo have been moderating slightly. Buy what you need now, it will be going up again.

Supply and demand.

Supply has caught up with demand, now the sellers are sitting on lots of ammo and need to move it.

At the last show I attended very little money seemed to be changing hands.

I am now passing up boxes/cases of ammo that 3 months ago I would have swooped up without even looking at the price.
The other day I saw 400 rnds. of a load that I do shoot, but I refused to pay the price and am waiting for the prices to come back down to earth. If we all do this, they eventually will.

True dat! If you haven't already started a buying program, now is the time. I doubt whether ammo will ever be a whole lot cheaper than it is now, but it is definitely more available now. I did something two weeks ago I haven't done in two years; I saw some 100 round WWB .45 at Walmart and didn't buy any. I have probably bought 1500-2000 rounds since late last year, but it has been more available for about ten weeks now around here. I'll still buy some more, because it is still priced at WM at about 70% of what the gun stores want for it.

I load for .38/.357 and .45 Colt, but not for .45 ACP, so that and .22 is about all I buy. I will buy some more primers, powder, and bullets, but at 62 years old, a lifetime supply ain't near as much as it was back in 1993 when I started hoarding.

You youngsters better be buying some ammo and/or components all along, because probably sooner than later, some event will set off another frenzy like we had when O was elected.

I bought a 100 round WWB at Wallyworld last week for $32.75 or so just because they had it. It shoots quite dirty but I had fun with it.

They can't eat that ammo so I'll wait it out. I still have primers I bought after we went through this in '94.

Same here in NE FL. Guns and Ammo just sat on tables. All they sold was beef jerky, bottled water and sodas.

Recent gun shows have had an abundant supply of ammo available.

If prices are abating in other areas, the vendors around here haven't got the memo.

Ammo is everywhere and prices are going down at each show. As someone wrote above, not much money changing hands.
Only saw one transaction taking place at our local gun show today...

But they were selling a lot of donuts

I have never been a gun show ammo buyer. Historically, have their prices on handgun ammo been cheaper than WM? Thinking back, I did buy a couple of cases of 7.62x39 back in the 90s or early 00s. Seems like I paid around $75 per case of 1000.

Anyhow, do you think the gun show prices on, say, .45ACP will ever drop below the WM price? I ask that because of the claims that dealers were snatching up all the WM ammo and selling it at a big markup at the shows.

Prices may dip a ;ittle, as people recover their sanity, but I've been shooting for more than 50 years, and IMO prices never top out, they just plateau briefly and then go up again.

As supplies return to what passes for normal, there may be some buys out there. Snap 'em up, because we don't know who will follow the current communist - in - chief.
