Tombstone Territory (TV Show) and a Cowboy Question

Wouldn't cavalry horses have been trained to gunfire? Mosby, etc. certainly fired from the saddle during the Civil War and later, well into the .45 auto era. Saber use was also common. And Churchill used a C-96 Mauser from the saddle in the charge at Omdurman. Said he killed several men, prob...

Tombstone Territory (TV Show) and a Cowboy Question

Wild Bill's pair were Colt .36 Navy model, ivory handles, engraved. He was killed in 1876, apparently without changing to cartridge guns. He probably owned a Bowie knife, but that in his belt in the photo was for the camera, to show it. No one wears a bare blade loose in his belt that way.

Tombstone Territory (TV Show) and a Cowboy Question

The show is excellent, but fictional. On YouTube, many episodes. The real story of Tombstone is well known, the Earp bros. and Doc Holliday vs. the crooked sheriff and the Clanton thugs, neither side wholly virtuous. Movies have been made about the gunfight at the OK Corral and history books...

    Safe ammo for a 27-2

El Paso's Model 2 (?) is almost a clone of Safariland's old M-29, and at least as well made. I've owned about five, some of each, Holds a six-inch .357 high and comfortably. I've used them for J, K, and N frames, all LINED and basketweave stamped. Work and leather is usually better than on...

    Bone Tomahawk 2015 Movie

About cannibal cave men? We have later examples among pre Aztecs in the American SW. But cannibalism existed among primative and modern humans. Peter Capstick discussed them in his book, Maneaters, and this has been discovered among prehistoric humans. Sounds like a more graphic version of...

Yes, and I think Yvette Mimieux . Scenic! Kenneth More played Hendry, I think. He was good as the British captain in, Northwest Frontier/Flame Over India.

Mario- Well, hunters and ranchers surely saw dead tigers lions, and jaguars. Aztecs and others wore jaguar skins. But I don't know their word for a jaguar. Their language was Nahuatl. Only place I've heard it was in a film of about 1947-49, Captain From Castile, starring Tyrone Power. The...

    Colt Commando or SW Victory?

Colt barrels often need turning a bit to get sights in line. Askins did that to most he bought for USBP. I once almost failed USAF qualification with an Official Police. Swapped for a Vic. and managed Sharpshooter. It's not all about collector values, fellows.

    5 inch barrel

I handled a five-inch M-27 at the Dallas FBI field office on a HS field trip. The tour guide agent said the action hadn't been slicked to his knowledge, but it was a delight , a real step up from my only revolver, a Webley MK VI. He said few agents wore N-frame .357's unless working an...

That applies to Hispanics, too, which may be why they call a jaguar a tigre. But that's also an oral flaw, not just written. Here, we call the Euro elk a moose. And Boers used tijger for leopard. You'd think Dutchmen could tell spots from stripes!

Learning to shoot a revolver faster with accuracy

Find and read: Shoot a Handgun, by David W. Arnold. Best book I've seen for basics, although Keith's, Sixguns is also good. No Second Place Winner, by Bill Jordan. I knew all three authors and saw two shoot, Keith at 200 yards. You must be able to score quick, lethal hits on men, bears...

Rod Taylor played Curry well in the movie, but the US title changed and I don't recall it. Africa Ablaze?

    Mangas Colorado

This sort of reminds me of villain Wally Hendry in Wilbur Smith's, The Train From Katanga. Smith said it was his measure that he had been six months in the Congo and spoke not a word of French.

Mario- Thanks. I didn't know sleeves were feminine. Hadn't seen it with the Las prefix.

Yes, I think Colorados is correct, to plural the sleeves. Both that and Colorado are used in movies and the Net.

The Left Handed Gun: Ronald Reagan

I'm watching a film on YouTube called, Law and Order, a 1953 Western starring an actor named Ronald Reagan. Don't discuss his later career, due to the ban here on politics. But he's wearing his Colt .45 on his left hip. Never thought of him as being left handed. Has anyone else noted that...

    5 inch barrel

I asked an RCMP official why their Model 10's were fivers after police guns had trended toward four-inch. He didn't know, but guessed that someone in the Regina depot thought a good compromise, or that maybe recruits shot the longer ones better. Overall. I think four-inch replaced longer...
