I also have a 642-2 ser#CJVxxxx and the code on yoke is 324. My bet is you can find the same number (324) on each major component in the gun......

I have a 686-3, and a 686SSR. The lock is a non issue, they are both great shooters.

Most recent for me are: S&W1911sc black...fantastic shooter 686SSR perfect right out of the box They join a: 686 midnight finish 4" 642 with trigger lightened unfired 25-2 W/presentation case Still looking for a 625pc............ ;)

I have a 25-2 .45acp great gun. Since you are considering an N frame, I would def. try to get your hands on a 686(L frame) of some sort to try before making your final purchase.

For daily carry I love my 642, nice powerful light weight carry gun. I also carry a 686-3 4" Some days it's a s&w 1911sc. Have her Shoot a 686, then switch to a centennial. Best of luck, and let her make the decision

I just want to say hello to the forum I have had a 642 for quite a while now, great pocket piece. Today I made my first on-line gun purchase, very smooth I would say. So the new gun is a 1911sc 108483, cant wait to shoot A few thru ;)
