    .40S&W lead bullet handloads

I use home cast 175 gr LSWC's. I load these over 5.0 gr. of Unique and get 852 fps from my G23. It is quite pleasant and accurate. I don't think the 5 grains difference will matter with your 180 gr bullet over the same charge. I also tried this same bullet with 5.5 gr Unique but only gained 10...

Is something wrong with my gun or....

My SW40VE has been accurate and flawless. I was raised with, and trained on DA revolvers. I think that is my advantage with the SW series guns. I actually love the trigger, but then again is still do a lot of DA revolver shooting. Trick is even, steady, consistent pull. Let it fire when its...

Reloading for almost new ''inherited model 19 advice needed

I shoot a lot of 158 LSWC/5.0 Unique in my 4"66 (786 fps from that 4"), have been doing this for 3 decades +. I also shoot a fair amount of the old Skeeter load, 158 gr LSWC/13.5 2400, loaded in .38 special cases, crimped on the top lube groove (1200 fps from that 66). Occasionally I shoot...

    Looking for good hd 357

If I were going to buy a newly manufactured .357 today for HD and even for sometimes carry it would be the new S&W 66-8 or Ruger GP100 . If I wasn't settled on newly manufactured it would be Smith's 66, 19, 13, 65, 686, or 586. Ruger's Six series.

    WHAT'S UP WITH 2400?

Yup, I have used several different brands of 30+ year old powders that I found in my Dad's shed after he passed a coupla years ago. All works great. Some old primers I found with it too, they all worked just fine also.

    Lil gun powder

I use that same load of Lil Gun under 158 gr JHP'S and LSWC's with CCI Magnum primers in my .357's. Good load. JHP = 1270 fps , LSWC = 1341 out of a 4" 66. No signs of pressure, but certainly hot enough to keep me from seeking the 18.0 gr max. I think Lil Gun needs magnum primers.

Have you seen a barrel do this?

Don't know for sure, but I don't think that's the rifling. Did you lay it or lean it on something when it was hot (after 240 rounds, it was HOT) that could have left that pattern ?

    Best powder for S & W 686 w/4'' barrel

Recently tried 300-MP. 158 XTP/18.6 300-MP (Alliant's suggested max) for .357 Magnum . Clocked it at 1230 fps from 4"66. It's ok, but not the cats meow that I thought it would be. I much rather 2400.

    Best powder for S & W 686 w/4'' barrel

Actually lead bullets should be easier on your barrel than jacketed bullets.

New to reloading. Can you reload steel case???

I have reloaded steel cases quite successfully. I regularly reload steel .45 ACP brass that I pick up at the range. I then use these reloaded steel rounds when I shoot at places that casings may be lost (high grass, swampy areas, wet/muddy areas....). That way if I lose them , so what. If I...
