What a Smith 442 looks like after running the FBI handgun qualification

Wait, you're doing real shootin' with your J frame? I thought they were just for pocket-totin' ;) Good shooting man. My strong side thumb knuckle would be bloody and palm sore if I shot that with wooden boot grips. The CT LG-405 and polished cylinder latch on my 642 help a bit. I also would...

Smith 442 Compared to Ruger LCR

Great range report man. I like to think I'm a good j frame shooter with two-handed ragged holes @7yds but dang your groups one-handed at 10 yards are great! Mastering the trigger so that there is no front sight twitch on a gun with a 10lb+ pull is quite a feat.

Attn Snub owners: Reload times from concealement?

Good write up on the loaders. Surprised you had issues with the Comp1 and the 442 but I have not tried that new pattern of rubber grip. The old uncle mike's boot grip and the crimson trace 405 both work fine with the Comp1s in my 642. To mod a comp1 for the LCR, I removed some material from...

Attn Snub owners: Reload times from concealement?

Good for you for practicing your snubbie reloads. I never timed my snubbie reloads but my K frame IDPA reloads were ~3.5secs so I'd say you're doing just fine. I am curious on this though. Your speedloader is sticking up quite a bit and you obviously have a generous covering garment. But...

So what defense ammo shoots point of aim in your 442/642?

The Speer 135gr+P hits to POA in my 642 and is what I carry My slower 158gr reloads shoot a bit too high and Hornady 110gr CD shoots too low. I need to figure out a reload that shoots to the same POA but has less recoil.

TO MOUNT OR NOT MOUNT A LIGHT ON A SD-HD GUN

I have a light mounted on my HD pistol and there is a handheld light in the pack with it. With either one and light colored carpet/walls, you can ID someone at the other end of the house without even shining it at them directly.

Final UPDATE -- 640 Pro Series - How Low Is Too Low??

Are you aligning the straight edges of the sights or the dots? If using the dots, do they actually align correctly so when they are in a row, the straight edges of the sights are aligned? I have seen the dots/edges off on handguns before. Have you verified with dry-fire that the front sight...

    66-4 snub: fighting revolver

Been in love with the 2.5" M66 since I was a kid watching Simon and Simon. Never got one but I do have a 3".

    J Frame w/Lasermax Holster?

Can't answer about a custom maker... but I have the lasermax under barrel light for the J frame and it came with a pocket holster so they might sell that separately. Alternatively the stickyholster for the standard j-frame with the center stitching removed actually is more trim than the...

Self defense ammo from Freedom Munitions?

I would not. I would take most any other modern JHP load from a major manufacturer.

Keys in same pocket w/ holstered gun?

That should be fine if you stay standing and don't move at all. Sit down and everything shifts. Nothing in the pocket except gun and holster.

    Recommendations for .22lr training revolver

I would go with the 317 with fixed post/notch sights. You won't get the same recoil or trigger pull. Sights and trigger should be as close as possible otherwise what's the point in a "training" gun. On the other hand, for the amount of money you would be putting in to the new gun, you can get...

what defense ammo do you carry in your snuby

135gr +P Gold Dot in my 642. Importantly, it shoots to the sights. With the LG-405 grips, doesn't hurt to shoot. I search around at gunshows and when I can find the 50rd LE boxes for sale for less than $30 I buy a few.

Seen enough videos - Need the Truth !!

The human eye and the way the brain interprets makes it much easier for you to align straight edges as opposed to curved ones. Though anyone can become a master with XS sights with enough practice. I had two small revolvers with them (340 M&P, LCR) and after much shooting with them, I just...

    J frame target ammo

A standard velocity 146 or 148gr wadcutter target load should have the least amount of felt recoil. I know they feel softer than 110gr Hornady Critical Defense standard velocity. Adding Crimson Trace 405 grips to my 642 helped quite a bit with felt recoil.

What made you realize you should have gotten a 9mm instead of a .40 S&W?

For some reason shooting my .40 226 and 229 would induce a shake in my hands after a couple of boxes. Not sure why, 45acp didn't and 38+P in sub-15oz revolvers didn't. Sold them and have stuck with primarily 9mm in semi autos with a couple of 45acp that I rarely shoot.

    Moon Clips?

Yep, I was primarily referring to the carrying method shown in that pic above. They look like two handed operations. I've seen the speed of a competition carrying setup with the full size moonclips, it sure is fast. BTW, I got some of the 5 shot TK moonclips for my talo 642 in the thickness...

    Moon Clips?

Isn't the primary advantage of reloading with moonclips the speed and simplicity compared to using a speedloader? How does using a moonclip holder that requires two hands to release, better than using a speedloader that only requires one hand to use?
