advice on breaking in a new 686

In theory anything can be worn out, but I doubt you will ever wear out a 686. The amount of ammo it would take to wear it out would cost many times what you paid for the gun, so if you can afford to wear it out by shooting it, you can afford to buy another 686. Just enjoy trying to wear it out.

From what I have read, I don't think the chioce of caliber is that important. I just want to know where I can buy Kevlar underwear.

    S&W 5906

Replacing the sights on your 5906 depends on what kind of sights you have. Let me know what sights you have and I will try to help you out there. There were about three different kinds IIRC. Early fixed, the Novak fixed, and adjustable. If you don't know what kind you have just post a brief...

    Hi ! I'm new here...I have owened many,many S&W's..

I figured they were from a PD somewhere. You should be able to find regular baseplates for them. If you have problems locating some let me know and I will try to help.

    National Right To Carry

As it stands now if you own a firearm, or anything else for that matter, that was manufactured outside of your state, you have engaged in interstate commerce. I am not saying that I agree with that stance. I am just telling you what the courts have said.

    Hi ! I'm new here...I have owened many,many S&W's..

Are the magazine baseplates painted red or made from red plastic? Some agencies use training magazines for the range so officers don"t have to download thier duty ammo at qualification time. I never liked that idea for a number of reasons. They may have been painted so they didn't walk off...

    Bought a 3913

Whatever you do don't worry about the few scratches on it. 3913's were made to carry and I am sure you will put a few dings in it yourself. Not sure how you feel about the grips since you only said it took a little getting used to. 3913's are a lot slimmer than most pistols. That is part of...

    3913 & 5906

Not that you need to hear it again but I say buy both also. I have owned a 5906 and a 3913 and you will not regret buying either. You will regret it if you don't buy them both.

    how to reassemble 908

I am not sure what exactly you are describing, but I think if you tunr it over you will see some pieces in the frame just behind the magazine well that have to be pushed down. Also if you bought it new, it should have come with an owners manual that will have instructions.

Sooo, things have changed and I need an opinion

You may want to look for a blue 3 inch GP-100. They are not easy to find these days but the older three inch GP-100's came with grips that were smaller than the 4 inch + guns. What you would have would be the same brute strong frame that the GP-100 is known for, but just a little smaller on...

Cleaning burn-rings off the cylinder face?? I just can't make much headway!

I have had great luck with a product called Flitz. It is a paste and I use a very small amount on a soft, damp rag. It is a polish and I suppose with enough effort you could damage the finish on a blued gun, but I have never had an issue.

    Lowest recoil 38 special load

I would try blanks. Low recoil and no leading issues. One thing you may want to keep in mind is that a significant change in bullet weight can change your point of impact a good deal. Even for plinking this could be a pain if you are using a fixed sight revolver.

38 Plus P loads for snubbies. Same old same old, suprise and a huge disappointment.

Why yes, I do find this of interest. I have noticed in many of the posts here that everyone seems to a agree that the Remington 158 grain SWCHP load is made of a softer alloy and expands more readily than the Federal or Winchester loads. So the Nyclad load not expanding at all I would have...

Is there some new law I don't know about ???

Looking back on this thread, it is a lot easier to understand what happened and why. I know that any threat to individual gun ownership stirs peoples' emotions. It certainly does mine. I also understand why someone would not want to listen to what politicians SAY. So I can easily understand...

    Hello from Roanoke, VA

I joined a while back and am just getting around to introducing myself. I have enjoyed the wealth of information here. I have been shooting since I was a kid, and own a few Smiths. Over the years they seem to have migrated to the back of my safe though. The forum has renewed my interest in...
