Hi folks I'm new here. I made an earlier post for advice on a possible 3913 puchase here. Your responses helped me make a much more informed purchase, thank you. Well I bought it at the sellers full price. He wouldn't budge. The pistol is in great condition, however, just some negligible marks on the frame and slide, and was in need of a good cleaning. I put 150 rounds though it today at the range without a hitch. The grip took some getting used to but I'm very pleased with it so far. You'll notice it has a spurred hammer. The seller claimed it was factory installed, and a call to S&W confirmed that it indeed was. S&W also said it was built in 2001. I questioned the S&W operator if this was correct as I had thought that manufacturing of the pistol had ended in 1999. He concluded that it must have been a special order perhaps for a police department. (By the way, wouldn't S&W know who they originally sent it too? The operator never mentioned it. I should have asked) The seller had told me he purchased it in 98 so I really have no clue when it was made. The serial number is XXXX. I may have it sent to S&W in the future to have a proper bobbed hammer installed. Here are some pics for you to enjoy.

Congratulations and Welcome to the club.
She's a beauty!

If your grip feels sort of slippery
and your hand grips feels like your
constantly correcting your grip.

You might consider installing some Hogue
rubber grips for better control.

586L-Frame, I tried to catch you in another thread but I haven't gotten a response yet. Tell me how you like the Hogue grips on the 3913. Thanks.

Hi Firehouse Firearms,
If you have small to medium size hands
the Hogue Rubber Grips might be for you.
For me personally the fit is perfect,
and my accuracy was improved.

I have a solid consistent grip with
the rubber Hogues compared to the S&W Factory
delrin grips.

I also purchased a set of Hogue wooden grips
but replaced them with the Hogue rubber grips.

The Hogue Wooden grips are nice to look at,
but they are too thick of a grip for my
hands and I was constantly repositioning
my grip at the range.

Others with larger hands may prefer the Hogue
wooden grips.

If you find that the Hogues offer a nice grip, but are a bit thick, and the stock grips offer a nice profile but are a bit slick, then you might try this: Get a medium width bicycle tube for about $3.50 or so, cut a piece out of it between 1" and 1 1/2" wide, and slip it over the grip. You can make as many as you will ever want or need from 1 tube, it goes on and off the grip easily for cleaning and disassembly, and it won't damage the finish.

I really like the stock grip profile for carry. The Hogues tend to catch your shirt / cover garment if you carry on the waist, because they are so "tacky." The bike tube trick only adds a bit of traction for the 2nd and 3rd finger portion of the grip area on the gun. The butt of the gun remains "slick" and lets the cover garment slide over it without catching.

Just something to consider. Your mileage may vary, of course.

I've got a set of the hogue rubbers in my stash That I'll sell for $15..
Cangats Lothar you'll love that little 9mm, they sure are well made & extreamly lightweight
Also I've seen a few hammers for sale time to time on Gunbroker..

Whatever you do don't worry about the few scratches on it. 3913's were made to carry and I am sure you will put a few dings in it yourself. Not sure how you feel about the grips since you only said it took a little getting used to. 3913's are a lot slimmer than most pistols. That is part of thier appeal. Almost any aftermarket grip you try will add bulk or even stickiness in the case of rubber grips. If the factory grips seem slippery you may want to try cleaning them with regular rubbing alcohol. That will usually remove any oil that may be on them.

Lothar, welcome the 3913 fan club. I carry mine more than any other gun I own. Before you swap out that spurred hammer for the "correct" bobbed hammer you might want to carry & shoot it some. I have often thought that I might prefer the spur hammer to the bobbed on my own pistol.

As has been stated here, by others, and myself, the 3913 is the finest CCW semi-auto out there bar none! JMHO! As to the exposed hammer, I like them, and installed them on my 3913 and 4516. I think it makes them look better!!!!

Here's mine! It is my main CCW. It is carried in a K&D Thunderbird Defender holster with Hogue grips.

Edit: But no longer carried on safety as the picture shows.

Congratulations, Lothar! Yes, it is beautiful! I have often wished that I had reached back and found 3900 series S&W's. Instead, I bought the successors - 908S and 910S. I guess they are OK but don't seem to be quite the same quality.

I have Crimson Trace Laser grips on my 910S but I see ambidextrous safety on yours so, I don't believe that will work.

Good luck!

I have had a 3914 from the time they came out in the early 1990s and just found a well carried but not really shot, 3953 to keep it company at the December King of Prussia PA gun show. Dave_n
