From a previous post on M24 through -3 by board member BUFF: BUFF Posted 26 January 2006 08:36 PM "The Model 24's formal name is the Target Model of 1950 or .44 Hand Ejector Fourth Model. It began manufacture in 1950, hence the name. S&W started model numbers in 1957, and it became the Model...

Mountain Gun 629-4 vs 629-5 durability question?

What Okie John said. The old purists prefer the hammer-mounted firing pins while others prefer the frame-mounted pins, which is suppose to prevent the potential "wallowing out" of the frame's firing pin hole. There really isn't much difference in function except frame-mounted pins absorb a...

    Model 29 VS 629

Ditto. Better to get the Endurance Package on a shooter rather than worry about the type of steel. SS is easier to maintain the finish, but blued guns do just fine with the proper maintenance. It all boils down to availability, personal preference and price.

    M629-4 Trigger option question

Don't know the specific answer to your question, but .... all of the 29-2s that I've owned came with the .500" Serrated Target. But many of my owned 629s came from the factory with the .400" Smooth Combat. While most double-action shooters choose a narrow, smooth trigger, Jerry Miculek...

+P ammo in 625-6 .45 Colt mountain Gun

From the "for what it's worth department": A friend just received his Model 13 M&P K-frame .357 Mag back from the factory. At our last range session, his cylinder seized up. He had split the forcing cone with a steady diet of magnum loads. S&W replaced the barrel ($300) and suggested that...

    29 Silhouette

Roger the Ruger. Same with me. I'm "saving the Smiths" with a .45 Colt Ruger SS Bisley, a custom .45 Colt Hunter by Ham Bowen and a .45 Colt Redhawk by Jack Weigand (when he was still doing custom work). I do have a 629-3 with 5 in. full-lug barrel that is more robust with the EP upgrade. But...

    .45acp Mountain Gun

S&W 625-6 .45 ACP Mountain Gun Highly desirable and hard to find. Owners like me won't part with them. FYI this model comes with MIM parts, frame-mounted firing pin and NO LOCK. Good luck in your search.

+P ammo in 625-6 .45 Colt mountain Gun

Man, that takes some big ones to call out Mr. Linebaugh, a world-class gunsmith who has forgotten more about handgun engineering than all of us forum members put together.

    29 Silhouette

Model 29-3 Silhouette is an acquired taste, originally by silhouette shooters back in the day. The heavy loads being used for that sport were taking a toll on all the little parts required to keep the N-frame operating properly. Cylinders were rolling back under heavy recoil and the guns were...

    Performance Center 29-9 info please

Lou Horton Heritage series I purchased this same model. As I recall, the MSRP was around $950 and I paid around $700-750. IMHO, these were the last of the great, beautiful Smiths -- non-lock, non-MIM and with the latest engineering upgrades. Unfortunately, they did not sell well because of...
