The 681 I picked up from jimmyj last week arrived today. Mr. Flitz and I spent about an hour working on it after I took the rubber grips off. Once she was all polished up, I put on a set of Altamont combat grips. I think the old girl looks pretty good:

oooooohhhh shiny!

The polish job makes that plain jane 681 downright slick.....and here I went and made mine satin....to think what could have been...sweet 681, how does she shoot?

Don't know yet. I'll take it to the range for the first time on Wednesday.

That looks nice. I did mine the same. I shined it up pretty and changed grips and then sold/traded it off. What was I thinking? It had the best trigger of any that I have owned. Hold on to that one and enjoy

Great wheelgun! I'm a huge fan of fixed sight revolvers and have been looking for a nice 581 or 681 for a while now. Congrats on the great score!

Mine is at Smith right now getting a Fluff and Buff and combat package. Can't wait, but I must. :(

Nice grips and good polish job. I polished my recently obtained 681 with Mother's Mag Polish, which also did a good job restoring my 681. Added new grips like you did. Trigger pull is a little heavier than my 686, but still very smooth. Mine shoots like a dream and I bet yours will too.

Duty weapon..

Is it my old eyes or does that front sight look like it has been taken down some? Don't remember mine being that short. Carried a 681-1 for 3 years and I bought it when we went to the 686-3 model. When I go to the range to have fun, to the woods to hike or to the front door at night, it goes with me. It might just be the perfect gun in my humble opinion..all5x

Very nice! I loaned my son my 681 for backacking trips in the Rockies. He doesn't live in Colorado any more but won't give the 681 back <G>.

Very nice piece Gary 7

At the top of my wish list is a nice 681 .44 Spl conversion by Dave Clements

Nice revolver. Yes there's something about fixed sight Smiths that just seems "right". Stumbled on this one last week at a LGS. I didn't even know there was such a model as the 681. It was sitting amongst a group of 686s. Spent a couple hours with Mother's buffing it up. Been to the range once, with .38 Special +Ps. Working on a proper .357 load now.

OP: Exceptional revolver, love those stocks.

krehm: Your revolver and stocks are the cat's meow as well.
