    Difference: 38 Super v. 38 Special?

The 357 Mag is a thinner walled case than the 38 super. The magnum has an average OD of .379" and an ID of .358". The rim is .060" thick and .440" wide. The Super is also a straight walled case with an OD of .384" and an ID of .384". The semi rim is .050" thick and just .406" in diameter...

    Moral question

How does the grandson know that you even still have it? Maybe you are the type of gun owner that never sells a firearm, but I buy and sell so much, that I am not sure I even still own any firearms that I had in 1999. If you want to keep it, and not look like a jerk about it, just tell the...

Ugliest gun on the face of the earth???

I wish I knew - that photo was a from a finished auction I saw once. I wanted to save the photo to remind me of what it was. As ugly as it is, it really appeals to me and I have been looking for one for a couple years now. Yours isn't for sale - is it ?

    Pre-cocking a double action revolver

Good thing I started my post be saying I might be wrong! Happened before --- it'll happen again! I really didn't think the FA was available in quantity that early - oh well.

    Pre-cocking a double action revolver

I go into this post allowing for the possibility that I might be wrong - I don't know exactly how the Army's 1st Air Cav was equipped in Nov of 1965. The movie "We Were Soldiers" was based on the battle for the Ia Drang Valley, November 14-18, 1965. All the rifles used in the movie (that I...

    cylinder came out - Help

Didn't know that - thanks I've probably had 25 Smith's over trhe course of my life, and the only ones I've had apart are the old style. Thanks for the info! The old system worked and looks less complicated, wonder why they changed it?

    686-4 Matte - w/ Photos Carry combo

I like it .... of course I am a fan of parkerizing. Don't get me wrong, bluing certainly has its place, but since I have a parkerizing set-up, but no bluing salts, everything looks like it needs parked :)

    cylinder came out - Help

Pictures sometimes help me 'see' things more clearly. A - is the front sideplate screw. B - is what the screw should look like. The little unthreaded portion at the bottom of the screw should screw in far enough to prevent the yoke from coming out. There are only three reasons the yoke...

    686-4 Matte - w/ Photos Carry combo

WOW - That doesnt' even look like it has a hammer installed. I think I wouldn't go for the complete 'bob' but rather, just remove the spur and reprofile slightly.

    Pre-cocking a double action revolver

Isn't that the truth! I remember in the movie Blue Steel with Jamie Lee Curtis, the bad guy had taken her duty revolver. So - later his is getting ready to shoot someone. He first cocks the revolver to scare the guy - then the camera zooms in ..... for dramatic effect, they show the guy...

I might just bob the hammer too. Or pick up another hammer and bob that one.

    magna porting

Your computation is much like the one I use to describe a 'sporterized' military rifle. In the case of a sporterized 1903, you take a 600.00 rifle, put another 250.00 into it and end up with a 350.00 rifle. Probably not much different with mag-na-porting.

    686-4 Matte - w/ Photos Carry combo

I thought about a DAO conversion ... but I am not sure about it Does the reduced mass of the hammer, in the loss of the spur, affect the impact on the primer? I'd rather not have to get a longer strain screw.

    686-4 Matte - w/ Photos Carry combo

Thanks, A set of grips I have my eye on are the Nill-Griffe SW03HO grips. They have some texture on the side and the front with a smooth back. I don't know if I want to 'pull the trigger' on them, but I am thinking about them. If anyone has a pair, I'd love to hear a report on them.

    686-4 Matte - w/ Photos Carry combo

I picked up a 686-4 with a 2 1/2" barrel that I plan on carrying. The finish was scratched up, and I didn't really like it, so I decided to give it a matte finish. Other changes included a chamfered cylinder chambers, rounded edges and some polish to the engagement surfaces and trigger face...

What do you collect (besides guns)?

I collect WWII militaria, mostly German stuff, it should not need saying that I am NOT some kind of neo-Nazi, and I do NOT agree with the ideology, but I do feel that it it important to remember history, and I do like the styles of the German WWII dagger, and some of the medals and badges. I...

Can my FFL ship a handgun UPS 2nd day air ???

First of all, I don't care if the sentance above was written by the smartest legal mind in America, it is still a run-on sentance and with so many subordinate clauses, it becomes very difficult to read. If I were an English teacher, I'd have to give the writer a "D" ..... of course, if I were...

Can my FFL ship a handgun UPS 2nd day air ???

The whole thing about shipping handguns next-day air is a function of the shipping company. I have seen internet experts state that the requirement of the air shippment comes from the Feds, that really isn't true - the Feds just say that you can't use the USPS. Once they say that, how and if a...
