Those of you with a Shield do you...

I train with a chambered round and the safety off. Therefore, I carry the same way. As others have said, do what you are comfortable with or better yet how you train.

    Considering Reloading

You will get many opinions on the progressive vs single stage press debate for a beginner, many are valid. First you need to determine how much and what you shoot. I am strictly a hand gunner. I load for volume and shoot IDPA type competitions. Therefore, I opted for a progressive press...

    3913 vs Shield 9mm

I own both and have carried both. They are equally easy to carry and conceal. I prefer the Shield for CCW because I shoot it better.

    How much is too much?

I have had success using Bullseye with 124 gr. CMJ Montana Gold Bullets and a 4.3 gr. powder charge with a 1.140 OAL. in both my Shield and FS M&P 9mm. If I do my part accuracy is very good. It is my "go to" bullet for weekly IDPA type shoots at my club. My shooting buddy uses a 4.5 gr...

Anyone familiar with the movie: Pork Chop Hill w/ Gregory Peck?

Pork Chop Hill? Are you kidding? I viewed it at my local town theater when I was 8 or 9 years old and that was all I talked about for months! It was my favorite film. I am glad to hear the real players from the battle are still doing well.

    Frustrated beyond Belief

When I began my shooting hobby several years ago a retired LEO gave me some sound advice at the range one day. He told me to only shoot one half of the ammo I purchase and set the other half aside for tough times and shortages. I guess he knew what he was talking about. I reload now, but I...

Is the backlash in NY growing exponentially

From what I am hearing at my gun club, LGS, and friends who have AR firearms they don't intend to comply with registering their weapon at all. I hope our Governor has appropriated a large sum of money in his current budget proposal for more judges, courtrooms and prison space. It is going to be...

Some measures were voted out but confinscation was a part of the NY gun bill

They also wanted to put a 2 magazine limit on all guns. I am not sure who they expected to go out and enforce all these laws. I guess they figured since the legislation would reduce crime so much that LEO's would have quite a bit of time on their hands to knock on doors and have us voluntarily...

It's Happened Here In New York 01/15/13

The 7 round magazine limit will indeed be difficult to enforce. I am sure our LEO's are just thrilled to hear this and can't wait to start tracking us down. Will they be visiting our local ranges and rural areas where people shoot to check our 10 round magazines to make sure we are not over...

NY Has Tentative Deal on Gun Control: AP

It's as bad as it gets for us and we are sick about it. There was hope that it wouldn't get past the Senate or at the very least there would be some modifications. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of passing the proposals, it wasn't even close.

NY Has Tentative Deal on Gun Control: AP

Gun owners in New York are not putting up with this, there has been an intense campaign of calling, e-mailing, and whatever other means possible to contact our legislators and reject this madness. If the 7 round magazine limit is agreed on and there is no "grandfathering" clause there are...

    Ammo price gouging.....

When I first got into shooting a veteran LEO and experienced shooter gave me a bit of advice about ammo. He said that whenever I purchased any ammo to shoot 1/2 of it and set the other 1/2 aside in the event ammo becomes scarce someday. I questioned the wisdom of this initially, but several...

    Alzheimers Revisited

Alzheimer's is a cruel disease. It takes your loved ones away from you in bits and pieces. My mother is currently in the late stages of the disease. My father was her primary caregiver until last December 26th when he collapsed and died of a heart attack. My brothers and I took turns looking...

    Another mall shooting on Portland

No doubt people who commit these crimes have mental health issues. I am always amazed how people want to ban firearms whenever this happens. It is a mental health issue not a gun problem. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times budget cuts hit the elderly, children and the...

    So what are you reading?

I tend to gravitate towards historical fiction. I am currently reading "The March" by E.L. Doctorow. It is a Civil War story about several characters and their ordeal dealing with General Sherman's march of chaos and destruction through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Good book...

    Recommended books

The NRA Basic Pistol Course will include a booklet called "The Basics of Pistol Shooting". Near the end of the book is a section called, "Common Shooting Errors" that will help you correct shooting problems. I keep mine as a staple in my range bag and refer to it often when I am practicing...
