I was told (or read somewhere) that the 1.5" barrels did not have caliber roll stampings on the side of the barrel. I know mine (which letters as such) does not.

I had this guy follow me home from the gunshow I was set up at over the weekend. I got into it at very good price. I'm still grinning from ear to ear.
Chambered in .44 Russian.
I do have a couple of questions however.
I haven't seen that front sight before. Was it installed at the factory in...
What an incredible story.
I wonder what a "French ball" is (was) ?
Apparently not something to be attended by upstanding young ladies !
Am I correct in assuming that a "cowhide" is a bullwhip of some sort ?
Unfortunately your .32 Bicycle pistol wasn't shipped until 4 years after this incident...
I am in awe. What a fantastic story ! As a fellow collector of Model 1891's, it's my opinion that you have reunited the holy holy holy grail of Smith & Wesson collecting. Nice work, my friend. Nice work.

I regularly watch and participate on one of the more well known antique ammunition auction websites.
Don is right on the money for this particular box in the very above average and sealed condition yours is in. $300 - $400 all day long.

The Peters Thunderbolt box you inquired about is from the mid-50's. These "Chicklet" boxes, as they are known by collectors, held 28 rounds. Why the odd number of rounds, I do not know. At the same time the Remington offering was called Rocket.

And if you look closely at the pic, Dr. Smith is holding a revolver. He appears to be the only member with a pistol.
What are the chances, Don, that he's holding your new purchase ??
How awesome is that ??
Or am I not matching names correctly ?
