I use it all the time as a cleaner. I find it works great removing carbon fouling from the bore and a great general cleaner for the outer gun surfaces. I've never seen it hurt any material, ie. rubber, aluminum, finishes, etc. I still follow up with a lubricant and use Mobil 1 for everything now.

I've got several Glocks and a couple Browning High Powers but am looking to try an M&P and see what they are all about. I shoot a lot of 9mm so that's what caliber I would get. I'm thinking the 5" ProSeries since the gun will be primarily a range/target gun. Will the standard sights fit...

Both are very nice revolvers. $450 is a steal for that. I bought a new 4" 617 recently and paid $700. Well worth it though, it is quite a fun shooter.

I'd buy one immediately but I don't have any great hopes of S&W producing them though since they wouldn't be popular enough to produce even a limited run. 32 S&W Long ammo is expensive if you buy new loaded ammo. It is however, extremely cheap to shoot if you reload. I buy 100 gr Lead SWC...

Any gun is better than no gun. A 38 snub is a great self-defense gun, just know its limitations. It's a close-in fighting gun. A good, center mass hit with that .38 will trump a peripheral hit with any bigger, better, faster, whatever caliber. My 2 cents.

Got my book out, your serial number 574,XXX puts it as a Third Model Hand Ejector, post war, from 1946-1960 for SN's 536685-712953.

Looks like its pretty rough but it would probably make a good shooter/plinker with minimal work. Do what you like, it's your gun, but I'd probably look for a used hammer or call S&W to see what they can do to restore the action. A total re-blue and polish might be expensive but I'd consider...

OIF2 - Very cool 3" J frame there. .38? I picked up nice a 3" Model 31 in 32 S&W Long a few months ago that looks just like yours. Waiting on a T grip for it. :(

SDM makes the sights for both the pinned in sights and the removable spring loaded sights as the other posters have mentioned. There are pics on their website.

I'm shooting a 240 LSWC over 5.5 Universal Clays. I have not chrono'd it but extrapolating from load books, it should be around 750 fps. Very, very mild. Also, very accurate.
