Would cylinder from 38-44 fit on M27-5

Thanks for valuable info. I apologize for asking so many questions, but my knowledge about S&W revolvers is minuscule. Well, some fitting must be done, but if I understood you and others, cylinder lengths of 38-44 cylinder in M27-5 shouldn't be a as big issue as I thought. Regarding 8" (or...

Would cylinder from 38-44 fit on M27-5

Here is another twist; there is a possibility of 8-3/8 barrel from M27-2, if I am not mistaken. So, this weird revolver might be combination of: 1. Basic revolver M27-5 2. Cylinder from 38-44 3. 8-3/8" barrel from M27-2 This revolver will be used for silhouette shooting, half scale (100...

Would cylinder from 38-44 fit on M27-5

There is possibility that I might move to a country within EU where the largest permited caliber in revolvers is 38 Special. In that case, I would like to have 38-44 on N-frame, with a nice 8-3/8 barrel. Well, I doubt that such old revolver is common on today's market, so I started thinking what...

Barrel OD, muzzle end, on M24/624 and M25 45 Colt

Thanks Kevin, gorgeous revolvers, especially those with longer barrels. BTW, are firing pins on the frame? Yeah, I would need just OD on muzzle end of M25 in 45 Colt. And, as I mentioned, also on models M24/624. If my idea ever comes to fruition, the end result will be custom, slim...

    686-6 7 shot 7" Barrel

IMO, the only thing you are missing now is long spur hammer, like on 686 Target Champion.

    686-6 7 shot 7" Barrel

I have itch for something like this, but 7.5". Unfortunately, this is just a pipe dream, created by "cut, paste and stretch". For now...

Models 24/624, is any problem with barrel using hotter handloads?

As I said in post #17, I do have two Bisley revolvers 44 Magnum; 5.5" and 7.5", and just sold 7.5" Redhawk. The point is I would like to have somewhat lighter DA revolver, 6" or 6.5" barrel, for loads that are basically starting loads for 44 Magnum. Bit hotter loaded 44 Special will do it, and...

Picture of barrel muzzle on 617 needed

Lighter barrel, if made from original 6" 617 barrel. Modified barrel as per picture will be lighter whooping 250 grams (8.8 oz). This revolver will be delight to carry and shoot. If I can only find somebody to mill the barrel...

recommendation for a neat classic 357 mag sixgun for home defense and target shooting

"Massad Ayoob and Bill Wilson discuss hand loading ammunition for self-defense. Are there reasons to avoid using hand loaded ammunition instead of factory loaded ammo for self-defense? Bill Wilson and the Youtube Community want to know. Massad Ayoob, with his vast experience in self-defense...

recommendation for a neat classic 357 mag sixgun for home defense and target shooting

You are welcome! As for self defense using "...38 special 158 grain semi lead weadcutter...", I am not familiar with laws and justice practice in Austria, but, I would strongly advise do not use any handloads or even target factory ammunition. To be on safer side, I would purchase a box of...

Models 24/624, is any problem with barrel using hotter handloads?

I am afraid installing barrel from M624 on 44 Special L frame wouldn't work. Distances from chamber center to cylinder center are different.

recommendation for a neat classic 357 mag sixgun for home defense and target shooting

Greetings from Zagreb, after 36 years in Mississauga, ON, Canada. I would also take a long, hard look at M27, especially later model with longer cylinder indexing bolt notch on front side of the ramp, see attached picture. Those later models have some critical parts made from stronger, harder...

Models 24/624, is any problem with barrel using hotter handloads?

I do have 44 Magnum revolvers; stainless Ruger SBH 5.5" barrel, converted to Bisley, blue Bisley 7.5", and Redhawk 7.5", sold recently. Well, Redhawk was gone because I found it too heavy to carry while hunting. Yeah, it can take top loads that will wreck many lighter revolvers, but are those...

Models 24/624, is any problem with barrel using hotter handloads?

No, I do not have such information. However, I will be very surprised if 44 Special cylinder on M24/M624 isn't made from high quality steel as their magnum revolvers. Last year I obtained spare cylinder for Ruger Old Army and few weeks back I decided to fit it to the frame at local machine...

Models 24/624, is any problem with barrel using hotter handloads?

I found one thread where it was posted story about issues when hot loading M24/M624. As a matter of fact, I even participated there, forgot that ("Mea culpa"): "JStacy: OP you mention the S&W mod 24 handling near 44 mag loads. I have seen a couple of Mod24 & 624's fall victim to that thinking...

Models 24/624, is any problem with barrel using hotter handloads?

Somewhere I found that few folks experienced barrel cracking in forcing cone area, when used heavier 44 Special Keith's loads (1200 fps) using Lyman 429421, or H&G #503, or their derivatives. Apparently, longer protrusion of unsupported barrel shank makes it weak, and cannot take heavier loads...

    Model 25 discontinued?

FYI: by Terry Murbach » Tue Jul 28, 2009 12:31 pm NO ONE, AND I DO MEAN NO ONE, CAN TELL YOU WHAT THE BEST LOADS WILL BE IN YOUR GUN. THAT IS FOR YOU TO TEST AND FIGURE OUT. I DO KNOW I CAN RUN 300gr BULLETS AT 1100FPS FROM ALL MY 45COLT SIXGUNS INCLUDING THE COLT AND S&W M25-5 GUNS OF VARIOUS...

Picture of barrel muzzle on 617 needed

I would like to have same profile of 6" barrel on 617 as on your Mountain Gun. I wish the same on 6" 686. Just sold one 686-3. It locked cylinder rock solid, top condition. However, its 45 oz is more than I want. For that weight I would rather carry M629 6" or Ruger SBH 5.5"
