    Sad decision

It is always tough to make the decision whether to euthanize a beloved pet. We had to do it for one of our cats and I cried like a kid afterwards. As painful as it is, you are doing the right thing. Hang in there, your cat will be better off.

    Walking for fitness

I had a heart attack on May 3rd and have been walking as per my doctor's suggestion since my release from the hospital. I was doing some walking before my event, but since then I have been dieting and and am up to 4-5 miles daily. So far I have lost 15 lbs. Along with the cardio and weight...

Shooting tips for new gun owner ?

The posters above have plenty of good advice. Once you learn the basics I would concentrate on mastering your trigger pull which will improve your accuracy quite a bit. This can be done easily. First buy some snap caps then simply practice your trigger squeeze pointing the gun in a safe...

    Range bag

Midway sells a range bag that is very popular with the IDPA crowd. I have one. I like it a lot. It is reasonably priced and is specifically designed for shooters with plenty of pockets to hold mags, eye wear, tools, ammo, etc.

    5926 – The journey begins.

I've got one, but don't shoot it as much as I once did. Mine is in a bit better shape cosmetically. It is a "sweet" shooter with a smooth trigger, and it is indeed solid and well made. I don't think you can wear them out. At one time there was a recall on them, so make sure you check the...

    Baseball anyone?

A Braves fan since late 50's. We had some pretty lean years in the 70's and 80's. I sent Hank Aaron a letter of encouragement when he was chasing Babe Ruth's HR record. He replied with a short note wishing me well with his autograph on Braves stationary that I have framed hanging on the wall...

    Your Favorite Cigar

I like El Creditos by La Gloria Cubana. They are a little rough looking, but tasty and cheap. Under $3 at a retail store and less than $2 per stick if you buy them by the box [50 cigars for about $75].

    Bye, bye, Remington...

I would like to hear what their local legislators who voted for the Safe Act are saying about this. From what I hear both the Assemblyman and the Senator from that district were all for it. It will be interesting come this election cycle to see how many New York state representatives will be...

    How to "Bulk Up"?

Adding bulk to your body depends on your body type. Some people just don't have the frame to add much bulk and it takes more work. Some are blessed with the type of frame that can add bulk without problem. Are you tall/skinny, short/husky, or proportioned evenly? The latter is the best for...

Touchy subject, death & wills, your possessions?

In New York it is a pretty complicated system as to what happens to hand guns after the owner passes away. You are not even allowed to legally handle a pistol here without a permit. After my father passed away I had to turn his handguns in to the local sheriffs department where they were kept...

How long did it take to get your CCW

It took me 6 months to the day to get mine in Monroe County New York State 10 years ago. It is quite a process here. One has to sign release form to make sure you haven't been a mental patient, you need 4 character references to be sure you are an outstanding citizen and not a threat to others...

    Progressive and Bad Ammo

I have been reloading on my Dillon 650 for about 4 years cranking out 15,000+ rounds. I had 1 squib and that happened within my first 100 rounds or so. The 650 was my first press of any type and there was a bit of a learning curve, the squib was totally user error. Now I occasionally get a...

    A thread for flawless Shields

I love my 9mm Shield it is as good as advertised. It eats any ammo I put through it including +P, commercial, and my reloads. It has replaced my 3913 as my CCW mainly because I shoot it better. Although I do miss the 3913 at times, but it's time to move on.

    5903 or 5926?

I have a 5926 and your assumption is correct, it is too heavy for carry but it shoots like a dream. It has a butter-smooth DA/SA trigger as well. It would serve you well as home defense or truck gun.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman dead at 46

Pretty sad to hear about this. He grew up in the town next door. I am friends with teachers who knew him in school. Unlike many in his profession, he never forgot where he came from and was a regular guy, very approachable, who visited his hometown regularly. Many considered him a genius and...
