Some favorite DAO Smiths - What's not to like

Cheating a bit... As a young LEO in the '60's, we were issued Colt revolvers. Nice gun but a bit inadequate given the 6 round cylinder, slow reload, bulky pouches and "poor" sights. The "poor" sights allowed me to "miss" more center-mass shots than good ones. I asked if I could carry the S&W...

I bought the wrong gun, now what?

Just back from the range with my 640. As expected, it's not a target gun but did do center mass on a target at 7 yards using 158 WCs. Switched to +P hollow points. The first was on center. Three in the torso and I think the last one is somewhere in Puget Sound...hard to do in an indoor...

What is the finish on this 1905 Military & Police?

Brown Bar Gun? Jamaican Bar Rum! Take a 12 oz. glass filled with rum, dip a bar rag in and rub on gun. Drink remaining rum. Do this every day for 100 years and get a brown gun.

    Old Folks Advice Needed

Call the PD and let them sort it out. I used to get those calls all the time and knew what to do...who to contact...etc. Once got a call like that and when I got to the house, the woman was lying in a snow bank at 4 AM. You'll probably be sorry if you do nothing. The fact that you asked tells...

    LEATHER HELP NEEDED

I have a knife sheath which is missing the belt loop which was riveted on. I want to pass it on to my grandson in good condition. I received a bid from a member professional, but it was too much for my budget. Anyone out there who wants to take this on? I can email a photo because I cannot...

    S&W Model 39-2

Since the 1960's As a young-pup police officer, I recognized the S&W 39 (not 39-2) was far superior to the Colt OP I was issued, so bought one new ($75.00) and carried it as an off-duty weapon. I tried unsuccessfully to get the department to switch, but the bosses thought I wanted to go to...

Significant win in California (9th Circuit)

Don't hold your breath! I learned yesterday that the Santa Barbara sheriff has found it impossible to honor requests because "The deputy who handles that is on vacation and we don't know when he'll be back." One deputy for an entire county? Vacation with no backfill? Sounds like a lawsuit in...

Bleeding artery in retina. Update #26 Thanks.

My story Retinal detachment and capillary bleed. Both caught early and treated painlessly by laser "shots". They felt like a tiny pin prick and solved the problems. Good luck and let us know how you fared.

    Did you know these?

The Rule of Thumb Comes from early days when a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick, providing the stick was no bigger than the man';s thumb (in circumference). Hence, The Rule of Thumb." Great stuff!

    AAA or AUTOVANTAGE

My sister... ...gave me a year's membership to the AARP Roadside Progam. Renewal time came up and I called my own insurance company and for $4.00 annually, I got the same coverage. Unless you want maps and doodads, ask your current carrier.

    Wal-Mart sells ammo?

I'm Done... ...with that company, especially since I recently learned that the owner cut a huge check to a certain woman who is "considering" running for The Pinnacle of Power in 2016. They never had any ammo there anyway.
