How Far Have Your Guns Traveled?

Well, as far as S&W guns are concerned I don't know. Have never lettered any of them. I do have a Colt 1903 32 auto that shipped to a dealer in San Francisco in 1914 and worked it's way back east to Ohio where I bought it (came with a factory letter). Other than that I do have a nice German 16ga...

    Movie firearm question

Magnesium alloys have been used for aircraft components and IIRC at least one auto manufacturer used a magnesium alloy crankcase in a sports car motor. They certainly can be strong enough for a gun frame. I don't think they would be much of a fire risk just from shooting.

    Ruger Old Army

An interesting post and quite accurate in regard to the use of premade combustible cartridges. There was a great deal of effort put into developing more efficient and quicker ways to reload black powder firearms. Loading loose powder & ball was slow, fine for a civilian loading a gun at home or...

What to keep in a forward vertical grip ?

Batteries for a laser or illuminated optic are the only things I've seen it used for.

Beretta and Gersun .380 "Tip Up" Barrel Pistols

The beretta 92 series is a locked breech design. Uses the same locking system as the Walther P-38 with a tilting locking block. The smaller Beretta 84 series in 380 resembles a 92 but it is a simple blowback design which can handle the lower power cartridge without a locking system. And now...

Beretta and Gersun .380 "Tip Up" Barrel Pistols

While it would theoretically be possible to make a 9mm version due to the higher pressure of the 9X19 round the resulting gun would have to be a lot heavier to actually work. There have been blowback handguns in 9mm but they depend on the weight of the slide (and usually some very stout springs)...

    9mm ammo deal

I used to load a lot of 9mm ammo. Rarely load it any more, prices have come down to where it's more economical to just buy factory (though I do still pick up and save the brass). AIM Surplus has several 9mm loads on sale right now, some under $10 a box. I usually drive there since they are...

    Aluminum Case Ammo

I've used a lot of aluminum and steel case ammo over the years. Often use it where it is difficult to recover fired brass, calms the cheaper side of my nature into not wondering where those missing cases went. As far as my own guns I had one 1908 Colt vest pocket that wouldn't work with aluminum...

Vacuum Sealing Ammo: Yae or Nae?

Another vote for GI ammo cans here. I experienced a flood due to a collapsed storm drain years ago, had several cans under water but didn't lose any ammo. The cans kept everything nice & dry. I do have a sealer and have bagged up ammo, mainly surplus or bulk packed stuff into smaller quantities...

I got a DENIED the other day...

We had a regular customer at the store who always went through the Federal background check without issue...... Until he suddenly started getting delayed every time. He got tired of the delays and applied for the UPIN number which put an end to the delays. The most he could get out of the people...

Pawn shops Are Great Places To Shop

I used to regularly visit the pawn shops in Memphis and often found some really good deals. When we moved to Ohio the only ones close to me never seemed to have anything good and usually wanted more for anything good than I was willing to pay. They didn't want to deal either. Gave up on them...

Trying to Get it Right (Grips for Model 1905)

Those actually appear to be genuine pearl........ just not factory ones though. The thin cross section is common on aftermarket pearl grips of the era. Cracking is also not uncommon on pearl as it is a bit fragile.

Close call at a gun show this AM

I did gun shows as part of our gun shop business for years and still do a couple of shows as part of my gun and ammo collecting hobby. Over the years there were far too many cases of guns being fired at shows and the vast majority of the time it was a vendors gun, either on their table loaded or...

Used a Winchester Shotgun to cut down a tree branch

Cut down a couple saplings with handguns years ago......... They had popped up on the backstop of our little shooting range. They survived for a while but eventually got one with a 38 and the other fell victim to a 45 when I had targets set up in front of them. From there they went to the burn pit.

My Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Perfected Model top-break revolver

I occasionally shoot (or try to shoot) some old ammo now and then. I've been collecting ammo for many years and can't resist trying some of the old ones to see if they still work. While full boxes get wrapped and placed in my collection, I have gotten partial boxes and a lot of loose rounds over...

    Sticky 22LR in Gallon Bag

Tumbling is not likely to affect the gun powder (this is a subject that has been endlessly discussed and experimented with on various reloading forums) but it will remove all the lubricant from the bullets since 22's have external lube. Best for the OP if he just shoots them as is. And I would...

S&W Grip Adapter for N-Frame - Fit Issues?

Looks off to me, like it's warped. Never seen any brand of grip adapter that stuck out at the bottom like that as designed. They normally fit flush against the grip strap all the way down.

1932 Outdoorsman with hole at top of front strap

I also think it's for a grip adapter. Hole is slightly off center and the inside of the frame looks rough where it comes through the frame.

Holy Cow!!! 55th high school reunion

Will be 50 years next year. Not really interested in going to any reunion, never went to any of the previous ones and not likely to attend another one. I have a few friends I've stayed in touch with over the years, also found a few online that I had lost touch with and was glad to hear from...

So, My Wife's 45 Year Old Visiting Nephew Sits At The Table And Asks Me.....

My wife and I got along fine with my gun hobby from the start. When we met she had very little gun experience and wanted to learn so we spent time together shooting. She used to go shooting with me a lot, less often now but still does sometimes, mainly her own guns but will still try anything...
