    Primers coming out.

Does it have a black X marked at the base? If so it was probably mine :D Just kidding. When a primer seats too easily I mark the cartridge with an X at the base so I know not to use it again.

    Trimming 45 ACP brass

I've seen this comment launch multiple opp-topic pages of debate. :D On topic: It may not be necessary, and everything in my OCD head tells me it's not necessary, but I still trim my pistol brass.

Just curious - Model 642 throat

 really? Yes, its just a few months old - 200 to 300 rounds max through it.

Just curious - Model 642 throat

I'm somewhat new to revolvers and recently purchased this Airweight for my CC. I notice a slight narrowing at the chamber throat when I push a patch through which I understand is normal. But I also see what looks like some kind of insert right at the throat. Hopefully the images post properly...

    38 special lswc problem

Are you sure about this? My jacketed bullets are a close fit in the chamber mouth, but my 158 gr LSCs cannot be pushed into the chamber mouth. I just assumed that this was normal since the the lead bullets tend to be about 0.001" larger in diameter than the jacketed bullets. Maybe I need to...

    What holsters?

I have the Blackhawk CQC for my M&P9 4-1/4". It's very comfortable and holds the gun pretty securely. I like the paddle attachment, but it came with both paddle and belt loop options.

    Firing Pin Cleaning and Lube

Dave, After reading this and other replies, I decided to check mine. Yeah, it was pretty well oiled. I doubt it was from me because I tend to use lube sparingly on the slide rails and other parts noted in the manual. I dab up any excess so there's never any "loose" oil running around my gun...

    Firing Pin Cleaning and Lube

Thanks D Rock. That's good to know. I guess I'll leave it for a while then.

    Firing Pin Cleaning and Lube

I have an M&P9 that has about 2,500 rounds through it. I do the usual field strip and clean after every range outing, but have never cleaned the firing pin and FP channel. Is this something that needs to be done regularly? Is it about time I do it now? If I do clean it now can I just remove...

    First squib

Cap - I'm pretty much a fifty-at-a-time slowpoke too. So far it's worked for me but whenever I read these threads I realize one can never say never.

    Score!

lol...you mentioned the new grand daughter first so I guess your are more excited about her than the bucket of brass, but I'm not quite sure...congratulations, grampa!!!

    Score!

Nice!!! I offered to buy the 9mm from my range...I said I'd sort it and give them a premium for what the recycler would pay...still said no. Maybe I need a new range

Thinking of reloading. How much would I save?

What Dave T said. If I reloaded to save money I think I'd go insane. I enjoy reloading and get a whole lot of satisfaction shooting rounds that I made and that are accurate and feed well. But like Dave said, in my case, i have $xxx per month available for shooting. With that budget I can...

    First reloads?

This is a very useful general concept...thank you. I use Win 231 and Hodgdon HS-6 for 9mm. I assume the W231 falls into the "faster" category, but how about the slower HS-6? Since one uses more HS-6 powder compared to the W231, so reducing by 0.2 grains would be quite a bit smaller reduction...

    9 mm case length?

Not to be contrary, but it shrinks in length when you shoot it and gets longer when you size it. (The case expands around the circumference when it's fired and it gets shorter.) I've measured a few before and after sizing and they grow an average of 0.004" after sizing. I don't know whether...

    9 mm case length?

Sgt - I "get" that most people don't trim semi-auto cases. What I don't get is how you can have a consistent "crimp" on different length cases. Since the amount of crimp is determined by the distance that the bullet tavels into the die, a longer case will have a deeper crimp. I use range brass...

    9mm or 40 S&W?

According to Winchester their #1 selling handgun cartridge is 9mm, then .40 (because of LEO's) then surprisingly .38 special, then .45ACP and 380ACP...in that order. Maybe you have other data...all I could find was Win.

    9mm or 40 S&W?

Based on this clarification, 9mm wins hands down. As a reloader I can find 9mm components easily, so much abundant free range brass that the small difference in .40 "power" just isn't worth it for me. If I need more power I'll be looking at something much bigger.

    Dry firing question.

Nick. That's the fair and considerate thing to do when you are prepared...knowing you are out to buy a gun. The last one I bought was just on the spur of the moment. If I was a gunstore owner and didn't want prospective buyers to dry fire I'd just make sure I had a few snap caps of the...
