    Best 357 to carry?

My preference is a Model 65 LS. Matte stainless, round butt, takes all but the Godzilla 357 rounds.

    Stock refinish??

I agree with TAROMAN. I've refinished several M1s and 1917 Enfields. also a couple shotguns, a Marlin 1894 and a Remington 721. None of them collectors, just decent shooters. I used Formsby furniture stripper with some steel wool and then applied boiled linseed oil ... and applied ... and...

Model 10 shoots to the left

Good advice all. One thing almost overlooked is using a pistol rest when test-firing the pistol. Eliminate as many variables as possible: the only things that should be moving while in the rest are the hammer and trigger. One thing I know about my own technique is that when I have zeroed the...

    Blown primer, stuck cylinder

When I shoot ammo that I am unfamiliar with or it is supposed to be hot stuff I will use an L-frame or N-frame pistol until I can see just how big and bad the ammo is. For me, K-frames are not strong enough that I would feel safe running hot hot loads. I know this is a topic that has been...

    Model 36 Cylinder Won't Open

I think I'd go to the range and fire the ammo if possible. Make it safe then start fiddling around with it.

J Frame break in guidance 101

For mine, after a clean & lube, five hundred rounds or snap cap equivalent. The Airweights are shoot a little carry a lot. After the five hundred if it is still stiff consider replacing the trigger return spring with, oh, a fifteen or fourteen pound one. Wolff sells kits for this. I went...

    Any word on John Witt?

I've been off the forum for a while. Does anybody know what's happening with John? He has my money but I haven't heard anything from him or about him. I pray he is doing OK, but I also want to do business. Either the parts or a refund.

Holster wear how do you see it

I gave my son my NIB 4566tsw before he went back to Alaska off leave, because I didn't have the heart to tell him it was my fav. And this is suppose to replace that, so that was my comparison which made it worse. The one you gave your son? Tell him what it means to you. And, what he means to...

Not sure if I should trade, but wanna

... This is a Lady Smith in .357mag, which I am also a big fan of ... My understanding is that the Ladysmiths were better fitted than standard production revolvers. I have a Model 65 and a model 60 and they are fine and smooth. I dunno, seems almost Custom Shop items. Let me know if I'm...

What SD Ammo in an Airweight J-Frame?

fixed sights regulated I may be wrong but I think S & W regulates all their fixed sights .38s with a 158g round.

    45 cal. Revolver or 1911?

I forgot who said this, one of the Gun Masters, maybe Cooper: "If you want to scare somebody use a semi-auto; If you want to kill somebody use a revolver." Good enough for me. I have a couple 1911s and a Jerry Miculek 625. If you are not familiar with 45acp get a 1911 and fiddle around with...

    Light primer strikes

You should open 'er up clean it and apply some gun oil like H Richard suggested. I use CLP sparingly. If you install an extra-length firing pin you must use snap caps or you'll break the pin. You didn't say if this is to be a target pistol or one used for self defense. If target you can tune it...

    K-frame strain screw

There is a reamer for making the strain screw hole deeper while maintaining the flat. I personally would never alter the frame of a pistol, just play around with strain screws. As others have mentioned the screw should be bottomed out, fairly snug (torque anyone?) I've done many so I feel it...

Lock plug. Now taking orders to ship next week.

I would be interested in several plugs. Whatever happens with Bullseye I think that carrying on with your plan to make them would, in a way, honor John by continuing the work he started. You are a man of honor, I see nothing inappropriate with doing the job.

Lock plug. Now taking orders to ship next week.

Bullseye Smith Bullseye Smith missing? This is strange. He has been ever regular in the discharge of his duties. I fear he is indisposed; I fear some calamity has befallen him. As of October 2014 his mailing address was: John Whitt P.O. Box 1305 Scott Depot, WV 25560 and the phone number on...

    Performance vs. Ladysmith vs. regular

I own and carry a Model 65-5 Ladysmith, 3" barrel and a 60-14 Ladysmith snubbie, both in .357 mag. Don't know much about Performance Center but both my pistols have smooth actions and overall fit and finish is a notch above standard production guns. it is my understanding that extra care was...

Odd Stance on a "Bear Gun" Caliber

A lot depends on shot placement. I doubt I could get six rounds into a bear's head under the pressure of an attack. Whichever caliber pistol we're talking should be solids — no hollow points or even soft point lead. penetration wherever the bear is hit will do the most damage. There is a lot of...

How to Clean Brushed Stainless Front of Cylinder?

I use some Hoppe's and a brass brush. It will never look un-fired again. The fire markings will not completely go away unless you abrade the steel and you don't want to do that.

    Severe leading

@C17 - on a few stubborn barrels I have used a mix of Kroil and Hoppes 9 with a cleaning rod and bronze brush, powered by my Milwaukee battery drill. For the forcing cone a Lewis kit works well. The tapered piece and screen do the job. BTW I only shoot plated or jacketed bullets in my newer...

    Model 640

I have a 640-1 and I like it for heft. I run some 357s through it but not a lot. 38 +Ps are sweet. Yes to Kadonny, my 642 carries great. either one of them everywhere any time.
