I own 12 sigs... all P series with the exception of the P230/232 and P239. and I also own a 4006 and a 5906.
I would rank the 3rd gen smihts right up there with the best Sigs made.
The trigger on the Smith is much nicer.
Since we're sharing...
I post this pic up as much as possible. This is a CA State Parks 4006. It was ordered as a piggyback to the original CHP order. The only difference is the laser engraved title and bear, otherwise it is a CHP spec 4006.
This was taken about 5 minutes after I picked it...
--- Some years ago the CHP out here in CA apparently tired of shipping guns back to their Sacto gunsmiths to have the occasional broken trigger play spring removed, as I was told they removed the springs from all their guns and even drilled out the drawbars so a field armorer couldn't replace...
I have a 4006 with adjustable sights and a 5906 with fixed sights. The 5906 is a laser. The 4006 not as much. I much prefer the fixed Novak sights over the adjustable ones.
I currently own 9 Sigs. Comparing a 3rd gen to a Sig is apples and oranges.
I am a leftie as well. Sig is BY FAR the most southpaw friendly pistol out there. You can swap the mag release if you want. I just use my trigger finger.
One thing to remember... These 4006's were piggybacked on a CHP contract, so if you need parts, be sure to let Smith know that you have a CHP spec 4006. There are a couple of differences.
ALL of my Sigs and 3rd gen smiths will do it- all semi auto will do it. Don't jam the mag into the pistol with 2 tons of force. There is really no need to force a mag into a pistol, just push it in enough and let the mag catch do it's job.
