What's going to be your next Revolver?

Something pre-lock, 3 or 4 inch, blued finish, chambered in .357/.38 Or a .357/.38 "pocket" revolver for conceal. There's a couple of rifles I want next so revolvers may have to wait.

    Shoot or store?

My Dad bought a model 66-3 brand new and waited 27 years to shoot it. He even carried it. He said he regrets not shooting it earlier vs being a potential collectible. If you haven't fired yours yet, you should.

    Future Classics 1980 to Present

Maybe they'll stop making internal locks - so all the revolvers with IL's will be collectible. I kid of course. How about an R8? Of course anything collectible now will be then.

To shoot or not to shoot, serial #1

My Dad bought a brand new 3" Lew Horton model 66 back in 1986. I went with him this summer to fire it for the first time. He said it was silly to not fire it for 27 years. Plus he's getting older and decided it was time. But, I could see the desire to keep the unfired mystique from a collector's...

    Model 686 Plus

No issues with mine after hundreds of rounds. The only issue I have is what to do with the extra round left over in the box of 50

Should I worry about buying new? (686)

I bought my 3" 686-6 at a gun show brand new. It was right next to a 4" at the exact same price. After staring at them for 15 minutes I chose the 3". I've put hundreds of rounds though it and have had no issues with the internal lock. I don't care about collectibility because I'll never sell it...

    Selling firearms for family member

Thanks for the great info and tips. I'll pass that along to this friend. There's 6 kids dividing up the stuff so whoever gets these guns I'll pass the info along.

    Selling firearms for family member

Hi all. My friend's father unfortunately passed away recently and owned a few firearms. They're not real collectible and the kids have decided to try to sell them. How does one go about legally selling firearms in this manner? The kids are all over 18 (in their 50s actually). Thanks.

That's a lot of holes in that cylinder!

Hey a bored out V8 motor appears the same way. Thin walls to stuff in more of the good stuff. Eight is great!

    Autos versus revolvers

It really boils down to preference or what you're issued on the job. Personally, I like the simplicity, reliability (so far), looks (yes really) and calibers offered in revolvers. I am intrigued with and have shot semi autos but haven't owned one yet.

What is the difference between the 686 and the 19?

I've shot both on the same day at the range. The 686 was a 3 inch and the 19 was a 4 inch. Both shot well but the 19 could be felt more in the hand for sure.

    Model 66 3"

g27chief- my Dad bought brand new the same exact Lew Horton back then (I think it's a dash 3)... He fired it for the first time back in June of this year. Needless to say he's not going to sell it. I can see why you want another. It's a sweet revolver.

    Any M&P R8 owners?

Hey thanks for the great replies! Looks like a sweet revolver. That 5" barrel gives it a balanced look. I can't wait to go shoot it with Dad in a couple of months. Yeah he won't buy anything online. He's in his late 70s and buys 'old school'. Can't blame him.

New 686 plus is breaking in nicely.

Nice gun. Looks like you had a good day at the range.

    Any M&P R8 owners?

Hey thanks. They told him most likely before the end of the year (2 months). We'll see

    S & W 627 .357mag 8 shot vs 629 .44 mag 6 shot

A .44 mag has more power for sure - especially if any brown bears will be crossing your path. The 629 is a sweet cannon. Some say even a brown bear (grizz) may be stopped with a well placed .357 - kind of controversial. Anything less than a brown bear - black bear on down will end up lying down...

    Any M&P R8 owners?

My Dad just ordered an M&P R8 from a local gun shop but not obligated to buy. He's not new to S&W revolvers. He owns a few pre-lock classics in .357. But, he decided it was time to get a new one. What do you think of the R8? Dad's read reviews but has never fired one. Anything to look out for? I...

    Every Forum Has One...

A 686 is a great all around gun. I'm really thinking a 4" for better balance and still a good size for hunting as well as general plinking and maybe (or maybe not) better resale. But you'll probably like a 686 so much you won't want to sell. I have split open a 2 liter soda bottle at a tad over...
