To shoot or not to shoot, serial #1

My Dad bought a brand new 3" Lew Horton model 66 back in 1986. I went with him this summer to fire it for the first time. He said it was silly to not fire it for 27 years. Plus he's getting older and decided it was time. But, I could see the desire to keep the unfired mystique from a collector's point of view. Especially a low serial number like yours. Tough call.

I say shoot it. You cannot take it with you. Personally, when I look at, for example, FBI Agent Jerry Campbell's Registered Magnum, I am glad to see it got some good use, despite its obvious cost at the time. I think you will enjoy it more once you run some Buffalo Bore real .357 Magnum loads - I am talking about their duplicate of the original: 158 grains at 1510 fps. Go for it!

My ex-wife collected china... stuff that wasn't meant to be actually used for eating, OK makes sense. I have guns that are all meant for... shooting. I let my son worry about value.

Anyone who buys a gun to look at will be rolling in their grave when their heirs dump them in some gunstore on consignment or bring them to a "gun buy back" and get dumped in the ocean.

NOT ME!!! Buy a fake and hammer it to a wall if you want to look at it :-)
