    Most leather items require a break-in period to be flexible enough. Maybe a LITTLE Neatsfoot oil would also help.

    Yes, out of sight is the best IMHO. Keeps the dust off. Depending on your atmosphere, it might be a good idea to have a pack of two of silica gel in a few drawers to absorb any moisture.

    A warning shot is usually unadvised and often illegal. It may delay or negate effective action. But dogs are very sensitive to noise, so in this case it might be effective if the dog is not too close. If he is charging, it might be too late for a warning and you need to make an effective shot.

    I'm impressed by Glocks.....

    I was about to buy a Smith M&P, but all I saw was 5 randomly placed white dots when looking through the sights. OTOH on a Glock, I can see a white U of the rear sight. So Glock has to be the choice for these middle-aged eyes.

    Good news. Last week I saw 8 boxes of 100 .22 rimfire cartridges on a Walmart shelf. Saw a guy come in and buy one box. First .22s I have seen on the shelf in years.
