I'm impressed by Glocks.....

Considering that Glock only really makes one gun with the exception of the 42 they should have the very best gun in the World. Most manufacturers make either a completely different selection of handguns or a broad selection of different firearms. Since Glock really only has one handgun it should be much better. Just my 2c.

Wife got me a g20sf for valentines day. Where they get its a hand cannon I don't know . To me its just ++ 9mm. It really is not a hog hunting gun. . For my birthday today she got me a S&W 460. I love that gun. Got 3 box of ammo free with it. 460s&w mag 454 casull and 45 colt.. Not as much kick as my 500 but you know it went off.

And some people complain about their wives and marriage. :p

Went to a 4th gen Glock 19 about 18 months ago, put a set of big dot xs sights on it, and stuck it in a Fobus holster. Just a tool for our decadent times.

I was about to buy a Smith M&P, but all I saw was 5 randomly placed white dots when looking through the sights. OTOH on a Glock, I can see a white U of the rear sight. So Glock has to be the choice for these middle-aged eyes.

Glock is a good gun BUT, I think that if the Springfield XD came out before Glock, there would be no Glock today. The XD is MUCH more comfortable, more ergonomic, has a better trigger, many more safety devices and disassembles easier. Glock owners treat their guns like religious icons so I'll get clobbered for this, but I'm an ex police firearms instructor (in Smith & Wesson's own city and county, no less) and I'll take the XD or the M&P over a Glock any day. And I'll take a Sig over any of them. Just my humble opinion, and I do have some credentials.

There are some features about the Glocks that really impress me. One is how easy they are taken down. It looks the way it SHOULD be rather than having to pry out pins. Besides the metal slide the rails on the frame are metal also, which I like. It seems to be a nearly perfect design. I think the ONLY problem I have with them is the shape. Too boxy. If they come out with a smoother shaped version I'd like them a lot better, maybe even enough to own one.

There are even easier guns to take down than the Glocks such as the Beretta PX4 Storm n M9

Buy a Glock 42 .380 nad you'll become less impressed. Brought one home Friday, cleaned it and took it out to shoot. Failure to feed 5 different brands of flat nose fmj/fmc bullets. Gun became a one shooter as it jammed on every round. Bullet would hang up on bottom of chamber. Fired 4 rounds of HPR 95grain jhp. Same failure to feed. The only cartridges that would work in this gun were Magtech 95 grn. fmj and Blazer alum. case 95 grn fmj.

My first Glock and I'm not at all impressed.

Glock reliability

I did the 4 day defensive handgun class at Front Sight. 39 semi-autos of all flavors and my S&W Model 66-1 2.5". Half were Glocks. I watched Colts, Springfields, Kimbers, Berettas and every other brand auto jammer fail and have to be taken to the armorer at some point during the week. Not once did one Glock fail - not once. Of course neither did my M66-1, so Glocks and a S&W ruled that week at Front Sight.

I still don't own one, probably never will, but that made a big impression on me, that plastic-fantastic pistol will function - over and over again (about 1000 rounds in the 4 days) - it is the timex watch of firearms. Those timex's can be pretty ugly themselves.
I like Glocks a lot also... My G21SF is fantastic firearm. But I really think it is hyperbole if I concluded that some legendary guns such as the Beretta M9 or SIG P226 mk25 were not as reliable as a Glock.

Glock 42

Failure to feed on 5 different brands of flat nose fmj/fmc ammo. Not once in awhile, every round would hang up near the bottom of the chamber. Sometimes the ejected round was not completely out and complicated matters. Same thing happened when firing HPR jhp ammo.

The gun did fire successfully every round of Magtech fmj and Blazer alum cased fmj.

My first Glock and not very impressed.

I'd send it back to Glock and have them check it out. I have 6 Glocks, including a flawless 42, but I sent my 29SF back to Glock before I put 1 round through it. They told the manager of my LGS that the pistol never should've left the factory the way it did. In any event, I got it back in 10 days and I've never had a problem with it.

I've had three. A G31, meh. A G30SF, same, less than impressive. And the one that swore me off of them for good, a brand new, in the box G17 Gen4, that blew up in the first fifty rounds of factory ammo. To their credit, they replaced the pistol, but I'm done.

The grip angle is a fairly consistent complaint about Glocks although it doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that in rapid fire, the trigger tends to slap the trigger finger and that can get painful after a while.

For years, Glock has had a 60% share or so of the law enforcement market. It's evidence that they work just fine for what they're intended for. I own a G19 and a G34, having sold my G26 as it was redundant for me.

I've owned Glocks for years and never had trigger-slap. That said I bought a G20SF last year and took a non-handgunner friend with me on the initial test fire.....he somehow or other experienced the fabled 'Glock trigger-slap'!

Must really hurt..my pal whined about his trigger finger all the way home..

I've shot the 10mm G20 quite a bit since then and nothing has happened to my trigger finger

Please make purchase based on functionality and not on appearance...in the long run your view history will consist mostly of your sight picture.

I doubt it. Same can be said for the XD but it's here! I think Glock would still be around.

I despise that grip safety. It's useless and I wouldn't trust it. There have been plenty of instances where they failed or broke during 3 day courses. What really gets me is you can't rack the slide without it. The ergonomics are not an issue to me. Both fit me just fine. And I don't see a difference in trigger. Again both are fine to me. As for Sig, I'll only take a German one.

I like 1911s, so I was with all those who sneer at Glocks - until I tried one. I realized then how elegant they are in their simplicity. So I got a Gen 4 G23. 14 rounds of 40 short and weak in a nice compact package. The thing is nearly as accurate as my best revolvers, and was more accurate out of the box than my Gold Cup was. Contrary to the propaganda, the stock barrel handles properly prepared cast bullet loads just fine. I added a Lone Wolf barrel in 9mm for plinking. I see a lot of comments on how Glocks are "just a tool." That is a high compliment, in my opinion. Mankind would be nothing more than rather delicate apes without tools.

I have probly a larger and slightly more diverse handgun collection than average, spanning S&W, Colt, Korth, Rugers, SIG P210s, Swiss Hämmerlis, Mausers, FN, Radom, and a few more.

I also have Glocks and I do consider myself more of a shooter and reloader than arm chair collector or someone who just packs. I entrusted the well being and life of my family to Glocks and AK's in a very unfriendly Thurd World country.

But after all, they are only guns and the shooting skills and mindset matter more than the hardware.

Pretty well covers it.

I wasn't fond of the sights either. Swapped them out with XS sights myself. Much nicer, not too pricey.

I only have two quibbles with the Glock design.

Plastic factory sights.

Have to pull the trigger to take it down. No, I haven't had an ND but plenty of others have.
