I'm impressed by Glocks.....

Looks don't count for a lot with me. I rocked my glock with some after market goodies and added some XS sights, all myself. How many guns makes can the owner do that too? My 23 would be the last gun to leave my side.

I've owned six Glocks - sold two as they were redundant, all have worked fine. The latest, a Glock 42 has been perfect and the smaller size / light weight is just what I have been looking for in an SD pistol for years.

Decades back I used to refuse to buy any pistol that had aluminum on it, as I considered that a crummy substitute for steel. In the 21 century I have grown some and now have come to accept both aluminum and polymer.

Glocks are great pistols, but for some reason there are shooters for whom they just don't work. With modern manufacture it seems unlikely there can be as much difference between individual pistols as there is between individuals.

To relate to trucks...

Glock is the Ford F-150
S&W is the Chevy Silverado 1500
Sig is the GMC Sierra 1500
Ruger is the Ram 1500

I completely agree with this analogy. I currently own Glocks, S&W M&Ps, Sigs (including the new P320), HK, Beretta, and SCCY.

I have owned Glocks since the early 90's and they have served me well, got into M&P's in the last 2 years and have bought several, have owned 2 Sigs (226 and 229) for several years, recently bought a P320.

The ones I shoot the most are the Glocks and M&Ps, really don't have a preference between the two. I have a feeling that the P320 will be added to this list, as my first impressions are good. I really don't understand the hatred for Glocks, they are good reliable guns, I don't get emotional about my guns except maybe for my first Glock, a Gen 2 G20. there are pro and cons about each brand. The one thing that Glock has over any of the other brands I own is parts availability, I get frustrated with S&W with there lack of parts that an owner can buy.

Glock and the M&P are like Ford and Chevy when it comes to comparing the two. Both have their loyalist and the Argument will go on forever as which is better.

I love working on Glock's. My last one was a 23 and replaced springs, pins, guide rod, trigger bar, just about anything I could that made it work and look better. Even got a 9mm barrel for it. That said I hate shooting the things. Like holding a 2x4. Can't hit much of anything with one. I sold it to a dude that was joining the locial police force and he just loved all the stuff I had done. Made a nice profit too. Great gun just not for me.

BTW, on Twitter, @GLOCKInc has a tease for something new. Maybe it's another spring recall. :)

I won't own one but that doesn't mean I don't think they'll fail to do the job they are intended for. I just happen to (1) dislike plastic (okay, polymer) pistols (I do have one and it's way better than a Glock because of reason number 2) and (2) I dislike their triggers, etc. I'll take traditional double action every time.

Just like an AK-47. I won't own one of those, either, but millions of folks love them and they are the rifle of choice for all of our enemies and have been for generations.

Two excellent machines that I happen to not like but that's totally personal and is in the YMMV category for sure.

I felt that way about "plastic" pistols for years. My very fist center-fire was a full size 1911 (~1991) and for many years I swore I'd never own anything else. Then I started getting into S&W revolvers and over time migrated to shooting DAO all the time and carrying my 442 all the time.

I started getting away from shooting 1911s and actually traded my last one for a model 29-3 a couple weeks ago. Should I admit it ?! I actually don't own a 1911!

About a year and a half ago I picked up a Gen4 G19 just because I wanted to play with the idea of building a glock based SBR. Have yet to start that, but more to the point, the first time I took it out I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn! I could shoot my 442 better at 25 yards than that glock. I was shocked and concerned at first. Then I spoke to a buddy a work who is a glocker. He told me it's all about letting the trigger return only to the reset point. So, I practiced some more and it took. Now, I shoot it great. I love it. And like so many others have said, IT NEVER FAILS.

As far as point-ability is concerned: Back to the 1911. That first 1911 was an A1, with the arched mainspring housing(the back-strap on a 1911). It pointed far better for me than subsequent flat mainspring housing 1911s I owned. The current Gen4 G19, with the out of box regular back-strap, points great for me. Maybe it's the arch or curve...dunno.

Also, my 18 year old son, who has shot a S&W model 15 DAO regularly for the last 4 years or so - took right to the G19. He loves it. BUT, he's never spent much time behind a 1911. He'll have to figure out his own preferences.

So, now I'm a fan. Not that any glock will give me that pride of ownership that a classic S&W revolver does. But they do work.

OH, and I also own an AK clone and IT NEVER FAILs either!

I bought my first Glock in 1992 which was a G20 10mm for concealed carry. I bought a G20 SF and then a G29 SF. I bought a G21 SF .45 ACP and then a second G21 SF and a G30 SF. I bought a G17 9mm and then a second G17 and a G26.

I sold all of them except the one G20 SF at the height of the panic high capacity gun buying phase along with some excess AR inventory and my FNH FN5.7. I used the money to buy old Colt and S&W revolvers and 1911s which were not selling at the time.

I am rather partial to Glocks as well...I have six of them!

Gen 4 21 ( 2 of them )
20 SF
Gen 4 20
41
29 SF

Waitin' on the 40 to hit the shelves...

It is also highly unlikely you will ever get in a bidding war on GB with someone, over an unfired, NIB Franklin Mint hand engraved commemorative John Wayne edition G23......

I like the Glock, they make a very good 10mm.

Rumor has it, that's the ad for the G43 (probable name for the 9mm Single-Stack).
It's about time.
My G19 is now 25Yrs old (Gen2) and still going strong.
My G26 is only 5Yrs old, but doesn't get any carry time since I got the Shield 3Yrs ago.
When they bring out the 9mm Single-Stack, it may make me trade my Shield... More likely, I'd just keep the Shield and Add it. :)

My response to the topic of this thread.......I'M NOT!

Wow,

very eloquently written with excellent and convincing arguements for your point of view.

I'm not sure why people love to hate them so much. I own an older 23 and a newer 19. The 19 frequently follows me out of the home, and sits beside my M15 snubby at my bedside.

It is simple, it is accurate (far moreso than my 23 for some reason) and it hasn't had a hiccup yet. Hard to beat that.

I'd never buy a new pistol that I had to do all that stuff to it just to "make it work better". What would be the point of that? That'd be a waste of money far as I'm concerned.

Well... Haters Gonna Hate. Thanks for your most eloquent and insightful reply. :D

That's pretty much my response to Apex trigger kits and why I never got an M&P FS, or M&Pc.

I've never had to modify any of my Gs, to 'make them work better'. They are still Factory stock. But they are very easy to completely strip down and swap parts, should anyone WANT to. :)

Glocks are great for everyone, just pick it up and shoot it, no decockers, manual safeties etc. Great for non gun people. My Colt 1911 is a part of me. I can disassemble/reassemble blindfolded and my body and mind react in predictable fashion every time I pick one up. It is a thing of beauty to me as well as a life saver(yes it did), I am old and have arthritis and still have no problem with taking it apart etc. without tools.
Glocks(and all plastic guns) are the next generations gun of choice I think. They are designed to be cheap and work, that is the way of the world now and always will be. I do not recommend the 1911 to many people because they do not want to take the time to learn it, the world has gone ADD I think sometimes.
