I'm impressed by Glocks.....

Very interesting, never heard this before. It makes sense.

Unfortunately (for me anyway) the biomechanics of my hand shift slightly to a more vertical 'grip' angle when I open up from a clenched fist to an actual shooting position.

You can easily experiment for yourself, extend your clenched hand, then simply open it up as if holding a gun. You will see the angle of your grip palm change slightly upwards.

At least mine does. It is why I never really could get used to the Glock angle when shooting (shot G19 and G17 rentals at the range.)

Not Glock-bashing; mind, they just didn't work for me.

The back straps on Gen 4 guns solve the grip angle issue. ;)

Glocks are great guns. Their simplicity is what makes them great.

If my job was a Police Officer, or some kind of Federal Agent where I had to carry a high capacity gun, I would probably choose a Glock. Even over my Sig.

They are reliable, they are very accurate, and as a defense gun/front line gun, having the same trigger pull every time is something that is critical in a real gunfight.

I had a Glock 23, I wish I still had it. Especially with the option of getting a 9mm conversion barrel for it.

I like my S&W, Colt, SIG, etc., etc handguns but like the Glocks also. I've decided I like the Olive Drab green ones.

I usually carry this .40 model 23. I've put Meprolight night sights on it since the picture was made.

The 10 mm model 20 is potent but thicker to carry. Meprolight night sights here as well.

The 9mm model 19 aint too shabby either. Factory sights on it and youngest son has taken a liking to it and carries it.

Meprolight night sights on this 9mm model 17 as well. Just wish it was easier to fit 1911 stag grips to the Glocks. ; )

I LOVE my...

This IS the Smith & Wesson forum; If you are impressed with the Glock (which is a fine pistol) you should be Very Impressed with the S&W M&P. Having owned both I can say wholeheartedly, the S&W M&P has Glock beat in terms of how it feels in my hand. Much nicer to hold. There is that gravely trigger on the M&P that needs addressing, however if you like to shoot lead you don't have to buy an after market barrel. As nice as the plastic sights on the Glock appear, I prefer the metal sights of the M&P. I think the S&W M&P is certainly worth checking out at your local gun shop and/or range.

I LUV my 3rd gen Smith and wouldn't take anything for it. It feels like it was made for my hand, good trigger, it will shoot lead and it has never failed on any ammo/bullet and I use a LOT of different ammo that I make myself. The aluminum frame is light, too. In this thread I'm just pointing out a few things that I found that are attractive about Glocks whereas before I was more in the hater camp.

PS: This is the 'other brands' thread.:)

Just thought I'd mention that S&W's are quite welcome over on the General section of a certain Glock Forum that I belong to. Quite a variety of guns and some of the same members as here. I will also put myself in the Glock pointability crowd. It just POINTS for me. I have to work at it a little with other guns. A lot of it is what you're used to.

Considering getting another G19, but there are rumors of a single stack Glock 9mm pistol. While that would compete with their G26, Glock did not let the fact that the G36 trumped their own G30 stop them from producing a single stack .45. Same scenario, different caliber. If they do release a single stack 9mm, I won't be able to get my wallet out fast enough.

Quoting myself here, now it looks like I may have to get my wallet out as there are internet rumblings about the soon-to-be released G43, single stack 9mm. There is one thread on this forum and on several others. (And, commented on in post #144).

There are some features about the Glocks that really impress me. One is how easy they are taken down. It looks the way it SHOULD be rather than having to pry out pins. Besides the metal slide the rails on the frame are metal also, which I like. It seems to be a nearly perfect design. I think the ONLY problem I have with them is the shape. Too boxy. If they come out with a smoother shaped version I'd like them a lot better, maybe even enough to own one.

I don't see a bit of difference in ease of takedown between a Glock or a Beretta PX4... In fact the Beretta is easier. The same goes for the Sig line such as the P320. Both the Sig n Beretta are extremely reliable n accurate firearms, I like owning all 3 !!!!

I kind of like the Glock's too. I have eight of them. For whatever reason, I'm able to shot them pretty well. My favorite? The Glock 34.

One Side OK

I don't know if I'm the only one but I find them incredibly difficult to take down. Much prefer a lever. Fits my big hands better.
Your field stripping problem (It was mine too) was trying to lower both sides of that Glock take down lever at the same time.
Next time (If you still own it) you'll find if you lower one side and then while still holding it ___you can lower the other side easily and you'll feel the slide move forward a wee bit. Then just take the slide the rest of the way off.
No issue when reassembling___the slide lever just raises as you push the slide back on.
I have the G-26 Gen 4 and have a Blue Label G-43 ordered. If I didn't have a Sig P320 Compact I would have ordered a G-19. (Gen 4) My EDC is one of my Shield 9s.
G'luck!
Poli Viejo

I haven't tried too many of them: about three 17s, three 19s, a couple of 21s, and a 36. I still have my three 19s,in fact one is a newly acquired Gen 4. Love 'em all. Hard to beat as a bug out gun, a nightstand pistol or a 'go to' pistol.

I have owned four 1911's and four Glocks. (two 17's, two 34's)
My SIL's were not at all interested in the 1911's, I gave each SIL a Glock.

The SIL's could care less if I sell the 1911's,,, but, they drool when we discuss the Glocks.

The last 1911 will be gone soon,,, I will hang on to the two Glocks.
I agree with the fact that the Glock is a tool,,, but, it is a GREAT tool.

My GEN 1 police trade-in Model 17 impresses me EVERY time I take it out.
I can not say that for any other gun I have owned.

No problem with them, just like the M&P platform much better.

Me too. Went to the LGS looking for a Glock 26 for EDC. Left with an M&P Compact 9 and never looked back.

Are those grips actually mounted? I'd love to have Hogue rubber sides mounted to mine.

Sent via phone

No, not actually mounted. Just got bored looking at all that plastic and saw a photo opportunity.

Those grips I borrowed from a .38 Super 1911 for a few minutes.
