Could anyone steer me towards a correct 1 piece scope mount

for a S&W Model 1500 .223 that could be currently purchased?

I already purchased a TASCO 1 piece for the S&W (short bolt) but the cutout doesn't line up. it overlaps on one side. I'm guessing that it was a long bolt in the wrong packaging.

Thanks in advance!!

I think the S&W 1500 typically takes the same bases a Remington 700, but there seems to be an issue with the short action one piece base.

Check out the Q&A's on Leupold's short action long range one piece base for the 700: STD Remington 700 Long Range RH-SA 1-pc Mounts | Leupold

The Leupold tech who answered the question recommended part # 51701, which is their standard two piece base. There are picatinny rails for the 700 short action, but I suspect they'll suffer the same issue.

Two piece bases are fine. If you're not satisfied with the rotary dovetail type, try Talley or Warne mounts.

If memory serves me, the S&W 1500 is the same as the Howa 1500 series, from the same factory with only a difference in product markings. Also marketed under other trade names over the years (including Weatherby Vanguard and others).

Excellent bolt action rifles! NRA pronounced the Howa 1500 to be the most accurate production-grade rifle available a few years ago.

I have a 1500 HB. The two base for a Rem 700 will work. I would avoid a one piece base if you have a blind box or hinged floor plate mag. It makes it harder to load. Plus you can reverse the forward piece to fit a longer scope.

Thanks again for the info.

I am including a couple of pictures. I have overlay-ed the one piece scope mount on the 1500 and lined up the holes. Just to make it clearer for future readers of this thread.

Is this a "long action posing as a short action"? Or was this some sort of mix up when S&W wrote the specs and different vendors made them incorrectly?

Are the hole patterns the same between the long and short action? I can put one on a Mill and match the receiver if there is enough to cut off.

I don't like the two piece weaver classic for the Rem 700. 48484
They are not good enough for this weapon.

I'll look at the Warne M902 876 that LostintheOzone posted.

This is my idea of a precision rifle. The bases are definitely not the weak link on that rifle. The weak link would be the shooter. The bases I linked are on this rifle (Howa 1500 HB .223). Hope you find what you need.

Now that is a beauty! and those bases that Is&wchad and you suggested probably will the ones I install.

Mine has never been fired... yet.

Here are some photos showing a few different manufactures scope bases on S&W Model 1500 rifles. If I recall correctly they were all labeled as fitting Remington 700 rifles. Notice that the Redfield 1 piece base is the only one that doesn't intrude into the bolt window significantly.
