Looks like we have a new entry into the Smith & Wesson Long Gun category.

Not sure why they did this after just releasing the FPC…. But whatever.

Looks like GAG, Buds, and SMGA has have them in stock ready to ship for $699. That’s unusual for a new product. Good sign of things to come from Tennessee. :D

I was thinking about the FPC but this does add another option. Wonder how long until we get some direct comparison information

Saw this, not sure I will be trading in my FPC for this but, I like the option. They have the ability to change the magwell to a Glock 17/19 mag. From the mag forward it looks like the FPC. I wonder if the bolt is the same.

Interesting but, meh, I will wait for reviews. I am sure that someone will be throwing it in mud and trying to destroy it on some Youtube video.

There are a couple of YouTube videos that show/tell the differences.

I don't hear a great roar of excitement about the Response so far. Then again, I'm not a cheerleader just because it has an S&W name. I judge guns on merits, not brands.

I hope so. If it does as good as the FPC did that will be in its favor.

Threaded barrel, 23 rds, pistol grip etc…… New Yorkers will never know if it’s any good.

Conceptually, the Response is interesting. The biggest obstacle for me (in NJ) is the threaded barrel. I hate the idea of welding something onto the muzzle! I am curious about the polymer receiver, not sure how flexible the rifle will be beyond a range toy. Waiting for reviews.

I bet at some point they offer a version with 10 rd mag and non threaded barrel. But the evil pistol grip is the NY stumbling block

Not interested in any 9mm bullet squirter rife.........IF they chambered it in a real caliber such as 10mm I may be interested

My 124gr JHP handloads in my FX9 8" get over 1500mv/600me.

Not as good as what I can get from my 10mm Banshee 8" with 165gr JHPs, over 1500mv/800me, but the 9s are nothing to sneeze at.

I'd guess that you'd get a little more from the 16.5 barrel too especially with slow powder. :)

.

I'm guessing that since it's on AR architecture it has the same unsupported chamber/barrel subject to case bulging hot loads?

The Colt SMG was never good. It is the poster boy for the dedication to pushing backwards ideas in modern "shooting sports". A rabid dedication to pushing bad ideas for the sake of mindless ideology and cultural imperialism.

I know both Hi-Point and Keltec make blowback 10mm guns their owners swear are 100% reliable but there is a reason most other companies don't. Unless they make the gun really heavy reliability suffers, blowback has its limits.

A 10mm version would be much less popular for other reasons too. A big part of the appeal a 9mm PCC has for me is that unlike rifle and magnum handgun rounds I can shoot a 9mm PCC at steel plates at the gun club I shoot at. And ammo is much less expensive. Neither of those would be true for a 10mm PCC.

While I would have some use for a 9mm PCC given a choice between a 10mm PCC and an AR in 5.56 or 300 BO I would go for the rifle caliber every time. Ammo cost is less for 5.56 and about the same or less for 300 BO unless you are shooting "40 S&W in a 10mm case" ammo. I couldn't shoot any of them at steel plates but the rifle calibers would offer more downrange energy and would come in a gas operated rifle with well proven reliability.

But if S&W did make a PCC in other calibers for those that do want one that would be great. Not everyone is restricted on what calibers can be shot at plates or has given up reloading in favor of factory ammo like I have. Nothing wrong with more choices. But I would expect a 10mm version to be heavier and if a metal receiver was required more expensive too.
