***Response Safety Recall***

Does anyone have any additional info on what the specific issue is and if one can inspect for it vs having to send your Response in to S&W?

I have seen the two pictures that S&W has posted of the Bolt (Not Fixed and Fixed) however unclear what the specific change is on the Fixed one...

Also if it is a change to the Bolt it would be helpful to know if we can just send in the Bolt vs having to pack and then ship the full rifle back...

Just sent in an email to have my 2 sent in. They are sending over an email with the label in a few days with instructions. I have never done this before, so hopefully it goes smooth.

Sounds like this might be a chamber issue being a bit snug for some ammo so lock the bolts back and plunk test some loads you use. maybe some metal polish on a patch and nylom bore brush in a drill might polish out any chamber issues .

I do wonder what this "response" buffer and bolt carrier weigh's in at together ? 22 to 24 ounce for 16" standard pressure ammo set up and did s&w use a ar15 standard carbine recoil spring . I have a older home assembled heinze 57 blow back AR9 carbine with a 23.7oz bolt & buffer weight and a TUBB flat wire recoil spring with a polymer bolt spacer at the rear of the buffer spring to stop bolt over travel . Mines locks the bolt open when last round is fired .

To bad beta testers are still needed those mistakes .

I submitted my claim today. Has anyone started the ball rolling on theirs. If so have you been told a timeline for returning it yet?

I submitted my claim 3 days ago and haven't heard a peep.
Got my shipping label late this afternoon, I'll get it out to Springfield Monday. Funny thing I picked it up Wednesday registered and completed the claim..can't wait to get it back and to the range.

Got my label today. Anyone know the reason or cause of the problem, or is it a deep dark secret?

MrGunsngear was doing a review of the rifle when he had a out of battery detonation blowing out the side of the receiver. He did note that the bolt seemed to be dragging prior to the event. Apparently there were a few other Response's that had similar issues

As to exactly why that may be kept a secret.

Just dropped mine off at FedEx about 45 minutes ago. I had put about 150 rds. through mine with no issues. Scheduled delivery date is Tuesday before 5 pm. We'll see how this goes.

I dropped mine off today. In a very unusual move for me, I had kept the original shipping box. I turned it inside out so S&W didn't appear anywhere on the outside, put the gun inside and slapped the label on it and sent it back. I'll post when it's returned so folks have an idea of the turn around time.

Response Recall - Work in process update.

Per FedEx Tracking my Response was delivered to S&W on Tue (2/27).

Today (3/1) I received an email from S&W indicating receipt of my Response along with a S&W RMA number to refer to if I contact them for any updates.

No other info or estimate on time to inspect and repair at this time...

My "Response PPC" landed at the Mother Ship on Wed. 2/28.
Got a received/RMA notification letter this morning (Sunday 3/3) at 12:34 am.
That's all I know for now.

Just got an email from FedEx.

A label was created and your package is preparing to be shipped. We’ll send the delivery date when we get your package from the shipper.

Looks like it's going to be a pretty quick turnaround.

Just got a FedEx notification. Will be home from the Mother Ship Thursday the 7th. Not bad.

Mine came this afternoon. Got delayed in Romulus on the way out for a day and another on the way back in Connecticut. So 2 extra days due to FedEx issues. Driver had to scan my ID (drivers license) to make sure it was being delivered to me. I've never had to do anything but sign before. Just finished putting all my stuff back on it (8 items I took off) so she's ready to go out for a test spin. No idea what they did to it. There's absolutely no information on the paperwork they sent with it. Does have the dash mark on each side of the 9mm marking on the bolt. That's about all I can tell you. Pretty quick and painless.
