Filthy car

I've seen a few like this over the years, tend to suspect most are unaddressed mental problems. Some are just total slobs and I would bet they live in a house that looks just as bad. The local wally world I part time at had an older lady working there who had her car filled with stuff till there was barely room for her to get in and drive. Sad to see.

I ran a Quick Oil change place for 23 years and during that time I had two regulars that's cars looked like that every time I saw them.
39 years as an Auto Mechanic and I've seen plenty of cars that looked like that.

You also never knew what you'd find when you have to look through the car to find the key for the locking lug nuts...... guns, knives, dirty diapers, drugs, etc.....

That is nasty. I feel bad for the car.
On the plus side, I guess Trashstang's driver isn't tossing trash onto the street like some ghetto losers.

Had a relative like that. When a car broke down, they'd store stuff in it parked in the driveway. I actually saw her kids go out in the morning to get clean clothes. They had three "mobile storage units" parked in a row for several years.

On another note:

There's a young guy around here with a ~30 year old Mustang convertible.

He cruises the upperclass neighborhoods and picks up most anything left at the roadside (for the normal trash pickup).

If he finds a large object, he lets the top down and will strap the object across the trunk lid.

He's fast at loading and good at it too. Always making his rounds. BBQ grills, lawn chairs, mattresses, etc.

We have a huge population of migrant farm laborers in this rural area. I guess he has a system to sell the stuff.

When I was stationed at Shaw AFB there was an old man that everyone called Will John. He owned almost all of the mobile home parks around the base. He made bank. He drove a battered old caddy and the inside far eclipsed the OPs pics. It was a rolling landfill.

He simply didn't care. I would see him often at a country store near where I lived off base.

He was odiferous with a six foot range. He would give Pigpen a run for his money.

I guess money bought his own brand of slovenly happiness.

...and we wonder why we ended up with HOAs and city ordinances on private property.

Knew a guy once that drove a car like that. Fill up the footwell on the passenger side and then fill the back seat. Fast food wrappers, drink containers, what have you. One day he was driving and a plastic shopping bag flew up and got caught on his driver's side mirror. It flapped there for a little while and then finally flew off. Right as he passed a sheriff's deputy posted up on the side of the road. From the deputy's viewpoint it looked like he had tossed it out right in front of him, like some kind of taunt. Lights and siren, pull over now. The deputy comes up pissed and yelling at my buddy and already had his book out, writing the ticket for littering. My buddy explained what had happened, offered to go pick up the bag, even though he had not thrown it out, and then said, "Look at this car. Does it look like I throw anything out?"
The deputy, who was probably having a bad day beforehand, chuckled a little and calmed down. he allowed as that could have happened, so he would just give my friend a warning instead of citing him. As he walked back to his cruiser my friend heard him say, kinda under his breath, "And clean that blanking car." 😁

I worked at auto dealerships for my entire career before retirement, have seen numerous vehicles like that and worse. Have seen some vehicles that were so nasty that the mechanic refused to work on it. I couldn't blame the tech and told the owners they needed to clean the vehicle out before bringing it back in for service, never saw the vehicles again. People who have vehicles like that are hoarders who have mental health issues.

I used to work at an oil change place and you are correct! We offered a vacuum and I quickly discovered how messy people can be. The things you’ll find under the seats and on the floor boards will surprise you.

Went in 10 to 15 homes a day for work you would be surprised how people live. And it is not just in lower income neighborhoods.
10 years of my 40 year career with the phone co was spent installing and repairing phones in customer's houses. This is spot on! Some were so filthy and cluttered that you'd have to step outside and take a break. It was during the hippie era in Calif and that added insult to injury as I had just returned from a 2 year session in the S.E. Asian War Games (2nd Place). I'd say it was a toss up about the split between filthy slobs and normal people. I would occasionally run into an elderly woman who lived in a giant cat box with 60 cats and heated her house with an open oven. I'd just call the sheriff and in those days they'd immediately arrive and thank me for helping. We did a lot of T&T (Tavern to Tavern) riding on our stroker HDs in those days, no helmets, best Cops in the country, if you could stand up you were fine. We could spot the cars of the girls we were looking for parked out front. Pots and pans and clothes were the tip off...It was a free country in those days. Police had a job and they enjoyed it. Now it's a giant game of GOTCHA!

After i retired from my pipefiters union I drove a large truck delivering building supplies. As a gear head I took very good care of my assigned truck. Went on a scheduled 2 week vacation and while I was gone my truck was given to another driver as his went into the shop for a blown engine.

In a good frame of mind after a very decent vacation and I went to drive my truck. Opened the door and all I saw was a bunch of Doctor Pepper bottles on the floor , containers of fast foods, a loaded to the brim ash tray.

After my BP went down about 30 points I stormed into the shipping office and said what was on my mind. I was on a good pension and sure as poop did not need this job so I was quite candid. Said I was going up to the restaurant and will be back in a hour or so. If that truck is not cleaned out and sanitized and get rid of the cigarette smoke you can go drive your own truck as I'm history.

Came back and they fixed it up to my satisfaction. The other driver a kid of about 25 was escorted into the office while I was out delivering and from what I heard he got quite a talking to.

Many years ago, a guy I worked with offered a ride to where I was parked, away from the job. I piled up in the back seat of his Fairmont, after moving clothes and trash to get in. I picked up a newspaper and said Oh look, Lincoln’s been assassinated.
You have me beat. The paper I found said we'd landed on the Moon.

Actually, I did see something in a onetime co-worker's house that gave me nightmares. His cat had died and he'd walked over the corpse so many times that it had been grafted into his living room carpet. If that guy had ever shared food brought from home with me I'd probably be institutionalized right now.

Amazing what some slobs do to their vehicles. They are expensive enough as it and should be kept in decent condition. My brogher-in-law was a real car slob. Trashed inside and mirrors dangling with dents!

In a past life I sub contracted for a man doing vehicle maintenance for Ma Bell.
Fueling, grease, oil change, washing etc.
One garage I serviced had the snub nosed Ford vans with a “dog box” engine cover that extended almost to the seats. A pain in the buttocks to work on.
One driver had the passenger side piled over the top of the dog box to the point it would overflow to the area between the seats and drivers side.
Old lunch bags, coffee cups, pop bottles, rotten fruit.
The guys had to work out of their trucks 8 hours plus a day.
Why work in a pig sty?
Just slobs.
