I originally had an NCStar D4B on the 15-22 since the reticle replicates the EOTech 512 that I have on my LMT M4. I found a great deal on a used 512 on another forum and mounted it when it arrived. Wouldn't you know it, right as the 512 arrived, I found another deal on an EOTEch XPS-2. It arrived today so I mounted it on the 15-22 for the heck of it. While I do really like it, it's still going on the LMT. I posted a couple of pictures just so you can see the difference in length in the battery compartments.

A couple of random thoughts. The 512 is well suited for the 15-22 due to the unlimited eye relief in combination with the long top rail on the Smith. The XPS2 is shorter, which tends to be better for some of the AR platforms. The 512 also adds a tad more weight which helps (a tad) in beefing up the 15-22 and getting it a tad closer in weight to its bigger LMT brother. Provided FYI.

Nice set up Defender.I see you are from VA. Are you located in the Hampton Roads area? I live in NC but work in Newport News at the shipyard. Here' my 553 set up. Just waiting on the Magpul MBUS sights to come in to replace the factory sights.

Sorry, I'm in NoVA. Sweet set-up you have with the 553 - top of the line with NV, SOCOM mods and dual throw levers! I work for L-3 and we used to get some killer pricing, but no more.....:( I should have bought early.....

that would look bad with a shroud 2 toned to match.. what do you think phil:cool:

somthing along these lines but with the slots in the other color.. or maybe put 5 larger slots the whole length then 2 tone it

Larue Index Clips painted, right?

Phil, the index clips aren't painted. They came from LaRue in the UDE color. I got the whole kit from LaRue(stock, grip,FUG, & index clips).
I bought the 553 the day after Christmas for my 15T from Optics Planet. They had a $70 instant online rebate & with the EOTech $50 mail in rebate, I got it for $529 with a scope coat & spare CR123 batteries. Not cheap but I thought it was a decent price. :)

I am going to look at a used 512 today. I live near a Military Base and a solider has one listed on CL. For $200 its worth a look for sure.

$200 is a good deal if it's not too beat. Most used 512s are running $310+. Make sure it has the EOTech stickers on the bottom (underside). Look at this link to help tell fakes:

Counterfeit Alert | L-3 EOTech Holographic Weapons Systems

Download or look at the PDF. Older EOTechs came in while boxes, not fancy. Good luck.

Sold it before I got to even look at it. I am in the market for something. I have a knock off Eotech and a knock off Micro Aimpoint and don't care for either one of them.
I like the look of the Eotech alot, I just can't see anything thru the knockoff I have. Too much glare, pretty much worthless.
But I really can't see spending $425 to put on a $450 rifle.

Really good condition used 512s are running $310-365. You can always find them more expensive, but the folks that want to turn their equipment over to fund the next project will see at a more reasonable price.

Thanks. I thought they only came in black. I didn't know that Magpul was doing a run with Larue for a special color 'UDE' for an entire furniture set.

Don't turn down a good used earlier edition of a genuine EOTech or Aimpoint sight. My M68 ("Aimpoint") has gotta be 15+ years old and was part of the initial contract or at least contemporary with it. Other than a lower battery life the current models don't offer me anything. The genuine sights are more rugged -- or at least should be!

The EOTech dot-in-circle always annoyed me so my use of the genuine sight is slim.

My knockoff M68 COO has been working fine. Sold up front as as a knockoff. No phony markings. Indeed no markings at all other then numbers on the light setting knob. $70 price is a dead giveaway. ;)

Compared to my genuine first generation M68 (Aimpoint CompM) the copy passes a little less light (slight tint to the optics) and the dot is a little bigger. On a .22LR at ranges we can shoot these without telescopic optics, though, the copy is a nice, inexpensive addition to the rifle. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I was chasing shotgun hulls around the range all Saturday afternoon with excellent results from the dot. I expect the faux-EOTech will have similar in results under these conditions.

Spend the money for the genuine article for your service rifle.
