I have been doing some shopping online. Locally, I don't really see any of the big brands like Magpul, etc,,,. And, really; not much selection at all.

I was thinking single pieces that cover a complete side. I don't really care if they are soft or hard material. I notice in my research that many of the soft single rail covers can be cut to fit. But, how does that look after being cut, and installed?

I've looked at the LaRue Index Clips online. It looks like one box would be enough to cover the left and right rails. I notice a couple of tiny nicks on the edge of one rail. And, I want to make sure something like the LaRue Clip would overlap enough to cover that. It looks like the overlap would do that.

What do you guys like? And, thanks for all input!

Oh! And, thank you to the member that posted the 25 round magazines on sale at Midway! And, I also found a nice tactical case from them, on sale as well! $17! I was about to buy a Bulldog from the local range for $39.95. Looks like the same case w/Midway logos!

I like UTG rail covers. They are quality yet priced right, 12-2" covers for around 10-11 bucks. There are enough to take care of three sides of the 15-22 fore-grip. They have a fantastic rating record and I really like them, Great product and great price.

I used some no name rubberized rail ladders from RRAGES. I didn't want "big" covers like you see above; just something unobtrusive to make the rails a little smoother on the hand. $13 for 2, I think.

Iv'e tried the UTG, Magpul XTM and a full set of LaRue Index clips. What I ended up with is one LaRue Index Clip on the front and rear slots so when I set the rifle on the shooting bench it keeps it from getting boogered up.

At one point I was using LaRue index clips, and I still do use a few of them and one can was enough to cover just about the whole rifle leaving open spaces to index the accessories.

But in the end I decided to just ditch the railed front end and switch over to an M4 Carbine style instead.

The clips look great! You can add or move them for other attachments, and there are clips in the set for tape switch wires.
No ... zip ties, bread bag twisties, electrical tape... clean and neat.

Hey Brett248vista...Do you have a video on converting to that awesome m4 carbine style handguard and front site? I love the "old school" look and have wanted to change the looks of mine to reflect that particular style.

I do not have a video yet. I will very soon. I am waiting on my spacers to come back from my co-worker and I plan on doing a video showing the parts that are needed and how it all goes together.

Should be ready in a week or two.

Cool!...Thanks Brett248Vista! I'll be watching for the how to video. I've watched your other videos and they are very helpful!

I went with the Tapco rail covers. You get 5 covers that fit a carbine length tube for $15. With a VFG, and the 5th cover cut in half, I get basically full coverage from the front sight to the receiver all the way around. Not the slimmest but at $15 it fit what I wanted to spend. I was having trouble finding anything else for under $50 to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks for all the great input, everyone! Right now; I'm still leaning toward the LaRue Index Clips. But, no decision yet. Since, my plan is to just cover the left and right rail sides, 60 Index Clips is just more than enough.

There are some nice options available! :)
