Ok, question, What bit do i use to take the pistol grip off the rifle? it looks to me like an allan, head.... Am i correct with this? or maybe a torx? i cant see in there to well even with a light.. what size to? thanks
Be careful, the springs and detents for both the selector and rear take-down pin are under there! (Only the selector parts are under the grip on a standard M16/AR15.)
Easy to lose any of these parts and easy to bend the springs during reassembly.
Just take your time and watch where everything fits. The detents probably interchange, but I'm not sure about the springs. Clamp the inverted lower receiver in a padded vice to keep the parts from falling out.
What Chuck said. When I replaced our grip, I was careful to capture the selector spring, but not understanding the Take Down Pin spring is here also on the 15-22 also (unlike most ARs) I didn't even notice until I put it together and the take down pin was loose and falling out. Luckily I had spare springs and detents on hand, so no issue.
I found this video when I did a google search and it gives one a good idea of what to expect when changing the stock grips. M&P 15-22 Magpul Grip - YouTube
