I know that there is another 17 thread on here but they were looking for a HMR. I am talking about the mach 2 same size as the 22lr. How hard would it be to get a mach 2 barrel for one? I know I would have to get a gunsmith in but just wanted to know what you guys thought.

Thanks

I am with you 100% It seems like the barrel would just need to be sleeved and the chamber reamed properly. I am just a machinist and not a gunsmith, so I don't know all the nuances of sleeving.
A different recoil spring would need to be sourced.
But it looks like the feed ramp and magazines should work perfectly.

Theres, more to it than just a barrel. Youll need a new feed ramp, new barrel, new mag. All these features are made for a round nose or hollow point lead projectile. The gun will not function right. youll have hangups, FTChamber. or it might get stuck in the gun, meaning youll have to constanly take it apart.New recoil spring will be need. Im not a certified Smith, Im sure others will chime in to. It will cost you alot more to convert it. threading isnt cheap and turning a barrel isnt cheap or easy if its stanless.

Are there ANY semi automatic rifles in this caliber? Just wondering.

This conversion from 22LR to 17HM2 was/is a popular tweak to a 22LR Ruger 10/22 carbine. A popular issue was weight of the bolt and recoil spring needing to be changed out and bulked up. Thompson Center made a semi-auto 17HM2 (also a 22LR) called the R55. Kimber makes a slide/barrel conversion for the 1911 handguns. Check out rimfirecentral.com for loads of info.

The .17 HM2 is a sweet little round I have one in a Savage bolt action. Would love a 15-17 if they would ever have a conversion !!

Here's one for you, what about chambering the M&P 15/22 to 22 magnum (WMR), now that would be very interesting bringing this little baby AR15/22 into a defensive role for sure.. If you want this done, lets all send S&W an email requesting it, with enough requests they just might build them. I'd buy one chambered in 22WMR for sure. I shot the .17HMR, it's super fast and accurate but at distances the wind can take it off and you think its either your scope or YOU.. And the cost of the ammo, well, may as well buy 5.56... Enjoy

You find converted 10/22's or if you have one you can get the parts yourself.. Marlin made a 17HM2 semi auto for a few yrs also.

Wow..Thanks, 15-22 board. I've never heard of .17 mach 2 before haha. I will look into it. Hornady gave it a cool name, that's forsure. Ouu, if they make a Savage bolt in that, I would probably get it.

edit: Okay...Damn you, 15-22 board! The two Savage rifles chambered in this round MSRP under $310. I'm not suppose to buy another firearm until next Summer!

Semi-auto HM2's, are fraught with difficulties. Many blown cases, or worse.

The pressure curve just doesn't make a 10/22 work well.

I did convert a 77/22 to HM2, with a Green Mountain barrel. Works well, and is a splendid cartridge, flat trajectory, little increase in noise, and wonderful accuracy.

Go to the Rimfire Forums, and you'll learn a lot.

How far will this cartridge fly flat for? Thought I read 175 yards or so. That's amazing if true haha

Trajectory chart:

25 yds -0.16
50 yds. +0.60
75 yds. +0.70
100 yds. 0.00
125 yds. -1.62
150 yds. -4.31

This makes it pretty much point of aim, to 110 yds., unless you are shooting at bacteria.
