15-22 Pistol flash hider removal - how to remove the flash hider
The pistol with its 6 inch barrel does not have any exposed barrel room to fit a vice jaw.
It appears that the only option would be to hold on to the hand guard and undo the flash hider with an a2 removal wrench.
How did you 15-22 pistol guys remove your flash hider?

Since there is zero room for a vice, I took a chance and put a wrench on it and gave it a light tap. It came loose. I tightened the barrel nut while I had it off. When I replaced the f/h, I just snugged it up a bit without really torqueing on it. The upper isn't very expensive from what I've read.

Put a few drops of penetrating oil on the washer, that will help you tap if off easier.

When I pulled mine I used a soft set of non marring vice jaws and actually squeezed the receiver right where they barrel keys into it. I figured the best I could do was to keep the torque from spreading the receiver open where the keys are. came off with no damage to anything. Same thing to check the torque on the barrel nut.

I figure it can't be on there that tight. I don't see how s&w even has the capability to torque it down without isolating the barrel themselves.

They sell a pipe wrench, it has a plastic body like a Monkee wrench, but the gripping part is a thick plastic belt, you wrap it around the barrel and slip it back into the body, you can hold the barrel from turning as you put a wrench on the flash hider, hit it with a mallet, it worked for me.. Again counter clockwise to take off..
Heat up the tip of the barrel over the fire until "very warm" it helps the metal expand.. that really worked for me.

would this be a strap wrench. you could use a vise grip with a piece of rubber or leather wrap around the barrel.
