Default Sling at Indoor Range

Just got my Magpul MS2 Multi-Mission sling and was curious to know if anyone routinely uses their sling while shooting at an indoor range.

I would if I go by myself. My AR is one heavy beast and the sling makes it easier to hold and to keep steady. If I go with other people, I keep it off so the rifle can be handed off easily and without being dangerous.

Yep - I have a Gear Sector 2 point on mine and use it most of the time on the range. Great for stowing the rifle so that I can have both hands free when I'm on the range on my own, and great when doing mag changes etc. during tactical competitions.

Not really necessary when shooting in a range bay alongside other shooters on a normal club night, but I get used to the feel of shooting with the sling, so I'll often use it anyway - QD mounts mean that it's easy enough to disconnect safely if needed, and it's great for allowing you to clear the gun and hold the bolt open without fumbling/dropping the rifle!

Well in California, were I live, you can not sling a rifle in the Public Ranges that I've used (can't speak for all just the 3 that I have been through), also can't holster. You have 15mins. of shooting time, then all weapons have to be on the table, barrel facing down range, breach open, magazine out, then step behind a YELLOW line behind the table, then proceed down range (NEVER TO STOP OR PICKUP ANYTHING AT THE TABLE PERIOD). Now at the standing 50yd range, I've seen some use the sling to help make a solid grip (three point grip) on the rifle, but as far as slinging it on the body with the rifle hanging.. NEVER HERE...

Now on my PD range, we sling the AR15 with either 2 points or 1 point slings when doing transiton to pistol, we train as we do in the field. I haven't been to a public range for over 17 years. Now just recently, I went to 3 different ones for some of my Officers for pers. training and testing new weapons as well as some of my weapons for either purchase or trial reasons. I really don't like public ranges and and thankful I have been grandfathered into using my PD range.

I suppose I should mention that I use a 2 point sling to help steady the rifle when shooting. I never have it hanging from my body. If it isn't in use, it goes on the table, muzzle down range.

Yes, just to qualify my post too - I'll only shoulder carry the rifle on the sling if I'm alone on range, or down range during a tactical comp. On normal club shoots the gun will be cleared and laid on bench, gun bag or in gun rack when not actually shooting.

I'd use it all the time if I had one hehe And I don't own one because the Magpul(and some other similar) front sling point cost too much for it being a small piece. Once I learn to use one during an Appleseed shoot, I'll use it all the time to help stabilize the rifle while shooting.
