I am in connecticut so I had to buy a compliant model 15-22.
It is legal in connecticut to have high capacity mags just not a collapsable stock.

The magazine that came with my 15-22 is a 25 round size limited somehow to 10.
It has a blue follower and the spring is the full length of the magazine.

Anyone know if its possible to convert it back to a 25 round magazine?

I have bought other 25 round mags already but it would be nice to have another for free if I can change it from 10 to 25.

I believe you can just remove the mag restrictor.

You have to drill the retaining pin out. There are a few post about it.
Some with pictures.

Ok I will search more. I tried searching for "convert magazine" before I posted but didnt find anything helpful.

Update found the thread with the pictures, thanks.

Success!
I pulled the end cap off, removed the spring and drilled a hole where the picture shows. I could then see the pin inside. Drilled another hole on the other side and used a nail to push the pin out.

This is very easy, all it takes is 5 minutes. You need a workbench with a vice grip, situate your magazine in the grip with a towel so you don't scratch it, then just open your magazine take out the spring then take a flathead screwdriver and locate the pin, with the head of the screwdriver against the pin take a hammer and give it a few good hits and there you go the pin should should bend and fall out they are really cheap then put your mag back together and you have your free 25 rd mag. I did this on two mags in 5 minutes.

If you do the drilling method can you see on the outside of the mag
where the pin is?
I mean can you see exactly where you need to drill to expose the end of the tapered pin and then pull it out with a toothpick or similar?
Thanks!

it is possible i just did a few about a week ago. shoot me a PM or email if you have any questions. i could give ya some tips.
if you do it, the angle your screw driver sits at on the pin you could possibly gouge the inside. i put some gorilla tape on the tip on my screw driver, just enough to still seat well on the pin, and be able to fit inside the small area where the pin is set.

You guys are over thinking the whole thing. A 6" thin screwdriver into the channel, two smacks with a hammer and you are done. No drilling, no tape, nothing else. If you can't pull this off, you have no business working on a firearm, any firearm. :)

I did one at the range today in less time that it takes to tell about it.

The only down side I see is if a high capacity ban goes in effect, it may be illegal for you to have modified 10 round mags. Just a thought.

This is my thought as well. And it is an almost certainty that a high capacity ban will pass.

i didnt mean specifically "modified" mags, just a high cap mag in general.

Before this administration I would have said it would be, but now I'm not so sure. I'll probably end up getting a few 10s over the next few weeks as we get closer to the Biden report release date.

I would not be surprised if Obama used an executive order to make background checks for all gun sales and a ban on new high capacity mags. Most likely existing high capacity mags would be grandfathered, but we would not be able to make or import more.

The problem with modifying a 10 round mag to 25 is that these will still say 10 on it and you would have no way to prove you modified it before the ban. Even if you take photographs you still cannot prove it is the same magazine because they do not have serial numbers. Having a magazine that could not only get you thrown in jail as well as loosing you ability to shoot at all is not worth it.

I say buy 10 rounders if that's all you can get for a reasonable price and hold on to them for now. If no ban happens you can modify them. If a ban happens you can still use them as 10 rounders.

It would really drink to buy them, modify them, and then have to throw them all away because of a ban.

I suspect future 10 round mags will have date of mfg or sealed to the point that they would be destroyed during modification or both.

I doubt many will toss a legally converted 10 rounder. Dremel tool cleans up any writing on a mag. AFAIK there are no laws currently stating a magazine must be marked to show capacity.

One thing I can say about my converted mags is they are marked 10 rounders and prove I have ever loaded them past 10 rounds. I never intended to remove the pin but it was necessary to clean the mag follower. ;-)
