Is it easy to add an a1 or a2 stock to the 15-22?

I live in one of those states where it's illegal to have a collapsible stock on your rifle. Instead of having a non-functional pinned collapsible stock, I would like to replace it with some kind of fixed stock. Is this an easy task?

This makes me sad :(

I'm surprised no aftermarket companies offer fixed stocks specifically for the 15-22.

I thought the tube was mil-spec and any mil-spec stock could be put on it. Or does this just apply to collapsable stocks?

This applies only to collapsible, as a1 and a2 buttstock each use a different lower reciever extension, as do aftermarket non collapsing buttstock such as the ubr, prs, and ace skeleton stocks.

Thanks. That's my new fact of the day. :)

So I take it the new MOE rifle stock doesn't work?

It's the ridge on the bottom of the receiver extension that keeps a standard stock from fitting.
If you can figure out a way to machine a groove into the stock, you would be gold.
The stock would have to be pinned to keep it in place. The ridge would keep it from turning.
There are probably more finishing details, but I haven't done the conversion, so I just don't know.

Any collapsible Mil-Spec stock will fit on the 15-22 receiver extension except for the collapsible stocks like the Magpul UBR or the ERGO F93 Pro stock that use their own unique receiver extension made specifically for the stock.

That is the one. Well I guess I can spend the money on ammo instead of that.

There is an aftermarket fixed stock for a carbine receiver extensions, the VLTOR Rifle Modstock.

FDE/Tan and OD Green are discontinued and on clearance for $50!!!

Here's a good writeup about it on the Military Morons page. Just search for "VLTOR RIFLE MODSTOCK" on the page.

The "locking" pin it comes with is removable, but I'm sure it's be a simple affair to pin it in place since the 15-22 doesn't have a real receiver extension with a buffer and spring inside. You could probably just drill a hole through the stock and tube and install a rivet.

Here's a couple pics from MM's review:

Uh, the photos are password protected!

Whoops, sorry. I uploaded them to the forum.

If you go to the website to see the review and click the pictures to enlarge, the username and password is "mm" for both.

You could whack the receiver extension off and thread the lower to accept a real buffer tube and then you could add an A1/A2 stock. I haven't seen anyone do a fixed stock, but a couple here have added real AR15 buffer tubes.
