is the outside diameter of the barrel the same on the threaded and non-threaded barrels?the reason i ask is because i am getting a non-threaded barreled 15-22 in a few weeks and would like to add a suppressor(even if its just for looks)to mine.i have a friend of mine would could cut the 1/2-28 threads for me IF the barrel is the same size as the threaded version.i would imagine they are the same but havent been able to find that info out.TIA

On the regular models, yes.

Make sure your friend uses a lathe to cut the threads, and not a die. Also, make sure he cuts the threads concentric with the bore, not the outer diameter.

he will use a lathe,but what do you mean by concentric with the bore?i thought the suppressors went onto the OD of the barrel?the 15-22 i saw with threaded barrel showed the threads on the outside of the barrel.

Yes, the threads are on the outside, however the hole in the suppressor must exactly match the bore. The only way to insure that is to cut concentric to the bore. If you friend knows what he is doing, he will understand.

i gotcha now,he has been doing machining for over 30 years so he will be able to do it.i thought i saw an adapter that you just put over the end of the barrel and tightened 4 set screws but i dont know if i like the idea of marring up the outside of the barrel with set screws.

If Florida allows threaded barrels, thread it!

The barrels are the same diameter for the threaded and non-threaded.
Your buddy will know to indicate the bore and not the O.D. That is very critical. The thread length is .625 and there is almost no crown left after machining.
The 4 set screw adapters are garbage.

i agree the adapter is garbage.im almost certain florida allows threaded barrels since the LGS im purchasing it from had a sig .22 LR with a suppressor on it but ill ask the LGS about the threaded barrel legality before i send the barrel out for machining.the sig might be a permanately attatched suppressor.

forgot to ask,are any of he magpul grips and other parts made to fit the m&p 15-22?id like to get some diff grips and sling for sure.

Pretty much any of the Magpul furniture should slap right onto a 15-22. BAD lever takes some tweaking and seems to produce mixed results from what I've heard and a handguard sounds like it takes a bit of work and tools to install, but grips, foregrips, rail covers, mil-spec butt stocks (except maybe the PRS and others designed for a fixed stock), RSA, MBUS, etc. all work w/o modification for the most part to my knowledge.

It is pricey, but I added the MFI Fake Suppressor to my non-threaded 15-22. I was going to thread the barrel, and add a flash hider, but I decided I wanted a different look than my AR15. You can get them direct from MFI (mfiap.com), but I ordered thru rrages.com. These work with threaded or non-threaded barrels, by the way (they ship either a collar/adapter or a threaded adapter, dependign on whether you have threads or not).

It fits well, and clamps very securely to the barrel. The rrages.com site sells nylon-tipped set screws, but I used the standard ones included -- I do not care if the barrel gets marked up a bit.

The machining, fit, and finish are outstanding.

Florida allows threads barrels, I would go for it as well. More options that way like a suppressor, that Florida allows as well

That is a nice gun store to put a free suppressor on the rifles.
You still have to pay a $200.00 tax and get a permission slip.

it wasnt put on the sig .22 by the LGS,it deff was a factory done job since it didnt seem to come off.then again i didnt really try too hard to remove it since i wasnt buying it.and the price was about $100 more than the S&W.it isnt a flash suppressor,it looks looks a silencer but i know that it isnt.it is a fake suppressor,id say it was about 5" long and 2" diameter in size.
