Earlier this year, I picked up 2K rounds of M-22 ammo. I've started firing it and having quite a few problems with it. I'm curious if others have had this issue, or if its possible that the batch I got was bad.

I'm having (on average) 3 failure to fires per 25 round magazine. Some of these rounds that do not fire will fail to extract when pulling back the charging handle.

Some of the failure to fires will fire up rechambering, some will not. They do NOT appear to be light strikes (I'll post pics later).

For grins, I thoroughly cleaned the 15-22, including removing the firing pin. It did not change the issues above. Today I fired 50 rounds of M-22 (with numerous FTFire and several FTExtract after FTFire). Then I loaded 50 rounds of Federal HV, and had zero FTFire or FTEs. Then I loaded another 50 rounds of M-22 and had several FTFire but no FTE after FTFire.

For grins, I asked some folks at the range to fire 10 rounds out of a Ruger pistol; One round had a FTFire, but fired upon the second chambering.

So, I guess I'm just paranoid that there is an issue with the rifle, and wondering if there is anything else I can/should check. Also, I'd love to hear if others have had issues with M-22 ammo.

Note - I checked the LOT number and it was not the lot that had double charges.

I have found that recently purchased Win. .22 ammo is terrible as you have stated. Apparently Win. doesn't care if they put out sorry ammo to consumers........AS for me I won't buy anymore.......Its worse than Remington .22.........And that means ......BAD.

I had those issues with both the Winchester M*22 and the Winchester 333 bulk packs. Same in multiple guns. I don't have those issues with other ammo. No more Winchester 22lr ammo for me, even in the current market where any 22LR ammo is hard to come by.

Personally, I prefer Fiocchi for 22LR ammo but, it's been hard to come by here lately.
My 2nd choice is Federal for bulk packs or CCI for bricks. Every Remington brand 22LR I've tried, shoots extremely dirty and lends to longer clean up times. The Thunderbolts are pretty bad but, the "golden bullets" are WAY worse because they produce large clouds of smoke.

Other than shotgun shells, I don't think I've bought or shot anything Winchester brand in quite a while.

I know there where some bad lots of M-22 earlier in the year, but I have had good luck with the M-22's that I have run thru my 15-22. One of my favorites.

M22 fire and cycle well in my 1522

I'd add "when they fire". When they fire they're fine but M22 seems to have more FTFs than most and I'm finding the ones that don't fire won't fire. Most 22 FTFs go bang if you hit them again or hit a different spot on the rim. Not M22. It's like 1 in 15 just have NO priming compound in the rim.

I haven't had FTF issues described by the OP.

I tried these in my bolt action Savage and about 1 out of 5 gets stuck in the chamber. Other cheap ammo seems to work well.

I had issues with the M-22 in my Sig 1911-22. It appeared that the rim was not the same thickness as others, and the extractor did not get a good grip, leading to a lot of fail to extracts.

In my 10/22, no issues with the M-22, but I sold the remainder for what I had in it, since I only want to keep ammo that works in both.

I had different issues with one 333 pack. Some of the bullets were actually too large in diameter to fit in the cylinder of a Ruger Single Six. Talked with Winchester, sent back the remnants on their nickel, and they sent a check for the cost of the box.

Their problem resolution is very straight-forward and equitable, as far as I've seen. Of course I'd rather not have to use it.

For me I have issues with the Winchester Super X, the stuff that's around 1300 FPS both HP and RN. fires fine, but gives me an average of about 3 stovepipes in my 15-22 every 100 rounds. I have no issues with any other ammo I've ever fired from it, which is numerous.

Went to the range yesterday with mags loaded with M- 22 purchased back in January. Same problems as OP experienced. This is the second box this year with this problem.

Used to love M-22. It was clean, consistent and reasonably accurate. Not any more. Shame. Have just about gotten to the point of purchasing CCI only when I can get them.

Ammo shortage notwithstanding, if the stuff doesn't work, its no good at any price.

Have you checked your lot # ? They had a recall a few months back. You might be eligible to exchange your ammo.

Recall was for double powder charge...it should shoot twice as good:)

I checked all three lots of the M*22 that I had, and none were on the recall list. I think the double-powder recall lots got the powder that was missing from the lots that I had. :)

Yes, I checked the lot numbers on the boxes I had when the recall was announced (six months after the ammo was manufactured). The two boxes I've had trouble with were purchased from Cabelas in January. The recall ammo, I understand, was made last May, 2013. I posted the lot number on a thread in the ammo section here two or three months ago when I went through the first box.

Back when I bought my 15-22 my LGS threw in a 500 rd box of M-22 and every round fired. I liked it so much that this became my preferred ammo. Then came the craziness, then the recall and now this.

And to think most of this stuff is probably being hoarded than shot and many don't know how good or bad this post- Sandyhook ammo is.

I put 525 rounds of rem .22 through my as of last sat virgin m&p ar15/.22 and about 1/3 of the shots had a drastically quieter sound. Had about 25 ftf. Got to get a good cleaning kit and going to put federal through next
