Well I just picked up a case...Feds. but they were 33.95 a brick. Now that the companies realize we will pay that much..this is the new price. That's what happed to primers...powder too. Primers were 13 bucks when the first shortage happened. Afterwards they were 19.. Now Cabela's sell 'em for 35-45 locally Scheels too. Local Mt gun shows are 27-30. This shortage is not over. I buy powder primers and ammo from a Wholesale concern back east. The owner is a friend. He told me a few days ago he is getting approx. 10 to 12 % of what he orders in the reloading supplies lines...ammo is not much better. I do some gun shows and just can't in good conscience sell 22's for what some do. Some powders just aren't available like they were a couple years ago..some like 4759 PB 7625 have been discontinued. Unique has been non existent locally for quite awhile...esp in the large kegs. But 22s?? I truly think they are a hoarding problem

Yesterday, I bought 2 - 50 round boxes of CCI at the Kirkland AFB BX.
The clerk lady there told me they get small amounts , like 10, of the big boxes almost daily.
The sell out in just a few minutes. Limit 2 per customer.

No 22 on our store shelves here, it's been two years since we have had any. Quite a change huh?

I truly don't want to sound like a punk here. I am not trying to be critical. But don't pay that much. If you do a little research you can find 22 ammo cheaper than that. Use gunbot.net, wikiarms alerts, learn how to use the Walmart app.

I have a bit of .22 on hand and tend to do my ammo purchases at real gun shops. With that said we have 4 wallyworlds all about 25 miles from where I live and the wife does do some grocery shopping there. ANY time I (and my sons) have been to any of the stores I have not see any .22 LR ammo in stock in at least a year.

We go at different time’s different days and nothing. Popular handgun rounds are iffy at best also. From what I see unless you getting bird shot or hunting type center fire rifle ammo you’re just wasting your time looking at our 4 wallyworlds.

I've never met a shooter who makes this claim, although I'll take your word for it that they exist. My response ... so what? If my local gun store was still selling by the case, I'd have another three or four cases to go with the three I currently have. As far as I am concerned, anything less than 10k of .22 LR is running low.

Back in the late 70s and early 80s I was shooting in the neighborhood of 1k a week. Now it's much less, but I still go through your 1k a month, for the most part.

My feeling is, and always has been, it's no one else's business how much ammo I buy.

I want to apologize for being curt in the past to people who continue to say that they can't find 22LR. After doing some quick research I can only assume that buying ammo online is a complete no-no for some people here.

I'm sitting on a stash of 22LR because I buy way more than I'll ever shoot. When I reached 1000 posts I wanted to do a karma and give away some ammo. With all of the different laws regarding buying ammo in different States I didn't think it would be fair to exclude people from the offer.

I don't want to get involved shipping to an FFL or asking for permits or cards from people. You know who you are.I might just be misinformed about the subject.

If I'm totally confused on this issue maybe someone here will set me straight.I don't want any ammo being confiscated by the wrong people.

Any thoughts on this??

I agree that I can buy/purchase 22LR everyday. If I want to spend .15 cents, including delivery fees, it can be found on an hourly basis on Gunbroker.com. But I will not overpay and that is why I complain because I don't want to pay .10-.15 cents a round for what I should be able to get for .04 to .05 cents a round. I have no other sporting goods outlets close to my home, other than the small independent shops and Walmarts. My complaint is up until two months ago, I was able to check the Walmart App and they would get some 22LR in a few stores, within a half hour drive. There are 9 Walmarts within a half hour to 40 minute drive from my house. I was able to buy the 3 box limit on some quantity of bulk 22LR, sized 225 to 555 rounds, at least once every few weeks. But for the past two months there has only been a couple of days any bulk has showed up, and it was the smallest quantity of 225 rounds, and was gone by the time I got there. For the last several years, the Walmarts in my area have always had 22LR, and their prices have remained steady for the last year. So I am now going into my third month and the local Walmarts haven't got any 22LR bulk in. They have had the 50 rounds boxes, but I will not drive all over for a 3 box limit for 150 rounds of 22LR. With the price of fuel, I would be spending more than .15 cents a round.

Bob

Cheer up Walmart shoppers. Walmart is preparing to use .22 ammo as a Black Friday teaser item. This sale is a marketing genius designed to lure men into the store for Black Friday sales.

Other retailers did it last year and it worked...

Pace your self and prepare to dive into masses to fight it out....Let me know who wins in the battle of the neck beards

The local Gun Shops and Gun Shows are price gouging or just don't have any. Gunbroker prices are still too high for 22 LR, although most other calibers of handgun or rifle ammunition can be found at decent prices. That still leaves me Walmart, and the stores in my area are just not getting any bulk in.

Our local Dick's has 2,000 round ammo boxes for $122.00 - - - about $0.06 per round, have to take the wife out to dinner so she can get a box as well.

Looks like the rimfire panic is officially over around here.

Sportsman Warehouse had a large display of CCI Minimags today. $7.99 for a 100 box, and $22 for a 300pk. Folks would stop and look... then walk away empty handed. I did too.

Went to my LGS today and the 22 section was filled to the brim with CCI 100 packs, 300 packs and 500 packs. They also had swamp people 22LR. Average price was about 7-8 cents/round with no limits.

The store was very busy, but there wasn't a crazed rush for the 22LR and they've had the shelves full every morning for weeks now.

Some stores have the distributor connections to get it and some don't.

Haven't had any in in almost three months, and I check availability every night for 10 stores with the Walmart App, which is 95% accurate. Once in a while they get a few 50 or 100 round boxes in, but it is too expensive to drive all over for that quantity, especially with Walmarts 3 box limit. Same for the local gun shops, and what little they get in is 50 round boxes priced at 15 cents or more a round. Shortage is not over here in FL.

It seems the .22LR shortage is recovering buts it's still very regional to say the least. Here in the Charlotte NC area most of the LGS have it, Gander Mountain has it and another sporting goods chain is stocked to the top of the shelves granted with a lot of Aguila but also has Federal bulk and CCI most of the time.

Actually, I'm in southern Maine. If you need 22 go to the Kittery Trading Post. As I said, they're stocked to the brim.

Last week at an LGS that I frequent I found Rem. 525 rd. boxes of .22LR Golden Bullets for $44.99/box. I passed due to previous less than satisfactory experiences w/ the GB's. They had 1,400 rd. bucket of the same ammo for $139/bucket. I passed for the same reason. The other night at Cabela's I found Win. Super-X .22 LR copper plated HP's available w/ free shipping. With tax, five bricks came to $188 total... about $ .0755/rd. That is about the very best price on any .22 LR ammunition I've found in a long time. In my area there is not any .22 LR ammo at any stores such as Wal-Mart, ACE, etc.

In my neck of the woods there are still hoarders trying to get $75 a brick or even $40 for 500qt, but this local article sums it up nicely. Hoarders are getting stuck with giant piles of ammo and no 7 cents per round is the norm: Roger Phillips: The .22 ammo drought shows signs of waning | Idaho Economy | Idahostatesman.com

I recently acquired a thousand rounds or so, and the most paid was 5.5 cents per to my door.

No .22lr in south east Florida. There are 5 WM and several gun shops in a 20 mile radius of my house and none of them have any .22lr ammo.

It's interesting how regional the shortage is becoming. Here in the Charlotte NC area every Gander, Academy Sports and gun store have .22lr in some form. I am now seeing bricks of ammo on shelves now. One LGS even is running ads on the radio for .22LR ammo.

am seeing it somewhat consistently in south-central Pennsylvania. Federal, CCI, and American Eagle seem to be on the shelves where I haunt. Some places still have higher prices and 'limits' on the purchase, but $35.00 per brick can be found. People are still snatching it up. Gun show prices are obscene.

Seeing more and more 22lr in stock on line, and prices are getting back down to reasonable.

LAX ammunition has 3250 rounds of Federal 22LR AutoMatch 40GR Lead Round Nose for $265.00. That's 8.15 cents per round. 190 of those offers in stock, and no limit.

I'm brand new to shooting and this ammo thing blows my mind. Here you really have to be one of those older retired and hoarding types with nothing better to do than show up at Wal-mart every morning around 7am to get cheap .22 LR in bulk or smaller boxes. Several of them take it and sell it in their own stores for more than double the price but I think that is slowly ending. The Academy here usually has some 50 round boxes at the service desk up front but the bulk is swiftly grabbed by the types I just mentioned. Its easier there because the regulars know the truck delivery dates and are standing in front of the store 30 minutes before opening time. Its sad really.

The gun stores usually have some Norma Tac-22 but they mostly go pick it up at Midsouth Shooters (which is located a couple of miles from my house and lately seems to always have it) and then sell it at a a $0.60 per box (50 rounds) markup. So.....I bypass the gun stores and go straight to Midsouth as long as they have it. A co-worker of mine who is part-time also works full-time at Midsouth during the day so I can just ask him about 22LR availability.

Even though I'm new to this I do know that $5.40 for a box of 50 rounds of Norma is still super high but its cheaper than buying it online and paying shipping and cheaper than paying $5.99/box at the local gun stores. The first day I stopped in to buy some I asked the guy at the counter (who I have dealt with regularly through my job) how many boxes I could buy because I was expecting there to be a limit. He said "I could bring a pallet of it out to your truck if you want me to." LOL! He even told me how many boxes they had in stock at that time (which was allot!) but that amount usually would be finished in a weeks time. That very same day I saw the owner of one of the local gun stores in there buying up quite a bit of bulk boxes.

Made the rounds today. Bass Pro, nothing (OK, they had bird shot). Academy, only high end Aquila and Remington target rounds at $19 / 50 rounds. WM, nothing. WM has even changed the shelf layout to give the .22 space to knives and multi-tools.

On my trip here, usual places. 2xGM, nothing. Academy, they had 10 (TEN) boxes of a HP CCI I had never seen before. Bought 2 / 100 round boxes @ $8 per.

It has not improved. There was a burst of a few cartons of bulk a few weeks ago, but it ended as quickly as it started.

If the new trend for plinking .22LR ammo is more than 7 cents per round U can count me out! I will trade my two .22LR pistols (keep my s&w 15-22) and forget about the whole thing. Life is too short.

LGS just took in two nice Ruger bolt actions for consignment. One a .17 and the other a .22 Mag . Owner didn't want them anymore because he was tired of looking but not finding any ammo for them.

My Cabelas hasn't been without some sort of .17 for months at a price. They have it online now in a couple of varieties. But .22WM? As rare as .22lr.
Once in a while the Academy stores will have it in the CCI 200 round box at abt $43 (before tax). Last summer Dicks had .22WMR for a couple of months at $13 / 50. None since. The manager at Dicks said they have not had any .22lr since they sold out on black Friday. Pity I wasn't in town.

Exactly my point. If I were a .22 gun manufacturer I would be very worried about the future of my product. Not only are many people not buying any .22s, they r dumping the ones they already have.

22 is like Unicorn's around here, unobtainum unless you wish to pay neckbeard prices.

I find myself shooting my 45's more. I have a good stockpile of 22, but not being able to replenish it for a normal cost at anytime I choose, is keeping me from buying a 22 pistol.

Guys, guys, once again: it's NOT about finding .22 ammo. it's about NOT paying 2 or 3 times more than what U were paying just 2 years ago. Do u know anything else in this world that has gone up in price 200% in the past 2 years?

My cancer drug price increases make 200% seem like a minor adjustment.

But yes, it is increasing in price even at the "honest" merchants.

I pay 10 cents per round for Norma Tac22 and I can buy it all day long and have always been able to buy it all day long.. In fact, on Bullets.com you can find most anything you want.

The only shortage that exists at this point is for the cheap bulk **** at retail outlets. So the shortage is over unless you're cheap . I buy online anyways because it's more convenient for me anyways. The $10 brick days are pretty much gone.

So is the shortage over? The way I buy and with the type of ammo I buy, there never was a shortage.

Looks good John, kudos to you! I'm already thinking about getting some of this ammo for special occasions thanks to your post. But most people I know will not spend 11 cents per round for plinking purposes. When I take my kids shooting, we shoot 2 boxers of Federal 550 rounds from Walmart. I used to pay $10, then $15, then $20, then $25 now I can't seem to find any. They are going for $60 at some places but at hose prices, we shoot 9mm or .45. More BANG 4 the buck.

Please supply sales facts to support your statements. Both are highly suspect.

Must be nice to live in a free state! In Mass you cannot even buy empty shell casings through the internet/mail/phone and if you don't have a license to carry (or FID card) and you get caught with an empty shell case, like the ones the kids pick up at the 4th of July after the salutes it is a crime and you are subject to arrest and imprisonment for having guns without a license. The firearms instructors here tell people going to the range to check the bottom of their sneakers for stray brass as they could get arrested for it. That is why I am trying to get my wife to take course and get her license to carry incase I leave a piece of empty brass in the car.

Default Better in NJ

Availability here in NJ is better, last year a friend of mine bought his daughter a Sig Mosquito but couldn't take her to the range to shoot it after the holidays . I sold him 330 rounds just at what I paid. I have been able to replace them many times since. Last purchase 2k rounds of M22 over a two day period

My search is for .22 ammo that my Sig 226 .22 will handle. I always buy what I can and try it, so far Federal target match, and CCI Mini's work very well, unfortunately those are the ones I have trouble finding. The only other .22 I have is my Henry . I have so many .22's now I am getting a revolver to shoot them.

Set yourself up for notifications from Midway. The prices are mediocre, but if I have several thousand dollars worth of 22lr guns, its hard to grumble about 9 cents a round with a straight face.

What upsets me is the recent price increase on Grey Poupon.

The "asking price" and the "selling price" are two very different things. Look at the 100's of listings for .22LR that are not selling with stupid asking prices.

At some point you would think all of the closets of all the hoarders would get full & those that shoot a lot or a little can purchase what they need without going on quest for it & let the market dictate the price.
I recently took a new shooter to the range, recommended she start out with renting M&P 22 called ahead to ask if they had the pistol for rent & 22 ammo, was told they have a little for the range but none for retail sale.

I'm paying $5.40 per 50 round box of Norma at Midsouth. I'm not paying shipping but the local taxes bring it up to about what you are paying for yours with shipping. They've had it in stock for quite a while now. The first day I stopped in to buy it I asked if there was a limit and the guy at the counter said "I can load a pallet it with it and bring it around to your truck if you'd like."

For Ammo as good as the Norma, it's well worth the cost (free dinner or not). Considering just how much smoother the gun feels with it, and how much the accuracy in my 15-22 is much improved, it's worth every penny to me.

Until i can purchase .22 cheaper than I what I can load .32 wadcutters for, my .22's will sit in the safe. Saving my last 10K of .22 for a rainy day when the zombies come knocking at the door.

It's funny U mention that because in all the WALKING DEAD episodes I have never seen any zombie get shot in the head with a .22, even though it makes sense to use a .22 because the .22 is a more quiet round, easier to carry and easy 2 shoot. Go figure.
