Need some help. I'm a left handed shooter who love his 15-22. However, of late I seem to be getting more and more brass in my face. I have had the rifle for over a year and run about 3,000 rounds through it. I just started noticing the increase in brass hitting the face area. Does anyone have any suggestions on a cure or am I just stuck with yet another consequence of a leftie in a right handed world (I can always switch to shooting right handed I guess). Any input is greatly appreciated as I love to shoot this weapon!

They make a deflector that mounts to the top rail. I bought one to use when my sister who is a leftie shoots my 15 22. I can't remember where I got it, maybe midway.

Maybe your problem is occurring because you have either:-

1 - A dirty rifle?

2 - Wear on the extractor spring, possibly broken or gunked up..or wear on the extractor itself?

3 - Have bent the ejector a little while cleaning?

The solutions i would try are....

1 - Give the rifle a good clean.

2 - Remove and inspect the extractor spring for defects/dirt.

3 - Check the alignment of the ejector.

If there is any wear on your extractor itself then you can always get hold of the Volquartsen 15-22 extractor, which gets glowing reviews.

If the spring or plunger look damaged in any way try Numrich for spares.

If none of the above are causing the issue then you can check out these threads and see if it went anywhere

Failing any success there...there are many brass catching options available via mainstream options....there are a few folks on here who DID manage to get the custom made 15-22 brass deflector....looking online it seems that it is no longer produced...maybe one of these guys got bored and would be willing to part ways with theirs.

You can but ask

Should you experience one of these (over load) or a detonation it could very well ruin your day. I would suggest a face shield.

In my experience this kind of stuff has been happening more often that it used to.

try the Volquartsen extractor, it made big difference in the way the spent casings came out of the gun. The casings fly, on an average, about 10+ feet away from me now.

I can relate to your comment of being left handed in a right handed world. Everything is more difficult than it should be. The Almighty played an additional trick on me by making me right eye dominant. That combination makes shooting a hand gun more difficult as I can't possibly shoot right handed. I've tried. I have to move my arms to the right, reverse my footing, sight and squeeze. After a lot of practice I've gotten pretty accurate.

However, you just can't do that with a rifle. I'm learning to shoot rifles right handed. My accuracy is approaching ok, but clearing the rifle when the range goes cold is awkward beyond belief. Trying to drop the magazine, lock back the bolt, and step back behind the red line before the RSO goes postal on me seems to be an impossible task.

I realize none of this is of any help to you, but I just wanted to let you know that there is someone out here that really understands how annoying the right handed world is.

And Ed had this happen in a firearm that was not a 15-22.

In other posts he has said that he feels ammo is not being manufactured as well as it used to be. I agree.

I don't care what the firearm is, I really don't like having my face on the same side as the ejection port....

Get a Volquartsen Extractor

I would also recommend getting the Volq extractor. I noticed when I installed mine, it throws the brass about 12 - 15 feet away. Maybe the added trajectory will help?

I'd be interested in that deflector if anyone knows the link.

Left Handed People

I think that left handed people are simply those individuals who still haven't learned how to use their right hands. lol

I don't know how to post a link but Midway and Brownell's both have them. Just search brass deflector for AR.
