Hard Case for 15-22 with Optics
Yesterday, I picked up my first 15-22. It has a red dot. The whole thing seems pretty fragile (it's crazy lightweight) and I'm concerned about damage, especially the optics during transport in my trunk (required by California law) and transferring it to and from the car and house and range.
Can you recommend a hard case?
What are your thoughts on this one:

I use a hard plastic shotgun case with the barrel/stock divider removed.
The 15-22 with red dot sight and five mags sits inside nicely.

Don't over think it. To protect it in transport back and forth to the range, a $20 Plano case will work.

Mine rides with my AR in a two rifle soft sided, padded case.

I got a "Flambeau Tactical 6500AR" at Wallyworld but it was probably 4 years ago. The sticker says its 40" long X 12" wide X 4" deep.

I have an Eylar 44inch hard case that's similar to what you have linked to, but have to admit I probably use a much cheaper MTM 42inch more often when going to the range. Got both off of Amazon a while ago.
The problem with the Eylar is I have the foam customized for a single AR, and the magazines and accessories that go with it. I found that things really didn't fit that well, and closing the thing is kind of a pain, if you don't create the custom pockets in the foam. This of course is just my opinion, and I'm sure the setup is perfectly acceptable for others. This works great, especially when traveling and you have to lock things up, but it limits what you can use it for, which includes other AR's that have different optics and barrel lengths.
The MTM case just has the egg carton foam on both sides, and is big enough where I can usually pack everything I want to shoot for the day into it and avoid having to deal with multiple cases.

I get my cases from Americase.
They make the best cases out there.

It appears Americase is out of business. I have a Nanuk 6 pistol case and a double rifle/shotgun case. Very heavy built and not cheap. Probably better than Pelican imho. Latches are definitely better

My trunk can only accommodate 41" long hard cases, so I'm out of luck with most of the cases on the market. I'm thinking of breaking the 15/22 into upper and lower components, then wrapping the optic and the connected portion of the upper in bubble wrap, then putting it into a soft care.

It’s not nearly as fragile as you think. Any decent soft case should provide adequate protection in a trunk

For soft cases I use Bulldog Tacticals, mostly for the AR modelled airguns, and occasionally with the firearms.
You would have to measure your rifle, but even with the optics mounted the 40" works with everything I have, while the 35" version works with most depending on the stock and muzzle device.

I bought a couple of Plano rimfire cases. They are shorter than the standard case. They are hard plastic, but fairly light duty. I've carried them in the trunk, the seat, the floorboard, and even in the bed of a pickup truck with no damage to my rifles or optics. I also have a couple of soft cases from LA Police Gear. They work as well. I have even transported AR pistols in tennis racket cases again with no damage to weapon or optics.
Unless you are throwing them around or otherwise handling them very roughly any case will do the job.

When it is not being shot or cleaned, my 15-22 has lived in a Plano model 108421 for the last 13 years...

I have one of those MTM cases... I use it to schlepp my fancy "precision" AR to the range and back. I wouldn't trust it to fly, but it's otherwise fine.

Put long guns across the backseat, or fold down one of the back seats... If I can fit a shotgun with a 28" barrel (52" case) in my Miata (in the passenger seat), then you should be able to make a 42" case work.

I have my 15-22 in one of those soft Midway cases, and I have a half-dozen of those cases for other guns, and they're nice.

Cheers!

I purchased that case separately for mine and it’s perfect. More than adequate protection unless you are jumping up and down on it LOL

For both my S&W MP's, Sport II and 15-22, I use cordura tactical cases 40" length. One is an old Midway that is extremely heavy duty, the newer one is S&W brand MP Sport case. The 15-22 is scoped, the Sport II has Red Dot, both cases are padded enough for drops and banging around to keep optics well protected.
