This is a short review on the new Apex Tactical forward setting sear and trigger.
As we all know (or should know), LOOOONG trigger pulls increase ones ability to flinch while pulling the trigger. This can be overcome by lots of training and trigger time. Most shooters don't have the time or money for either (hence why many gravitate to the 1911).

The hinged trigger on the M&P often made me feel like I was NOT pulling the trigger straight to the rear. Part of the reason for this is because I have spent so many years running 1911's (which have triggers that are square to the frame and are short).

I installed the new trigger, striker block, forward sear, trigger return spring, plunger spring and S&W's new trigger bar (is red at the tip or marked with the letter "H" for those that don't know). The first dry fire was love and immediately made me think of a 1911 trigger. Much better feel than my existing factory trigger with a tuned DCAEK.

Excited by the GREAT trigger feel, I went down to my range to shoot 100rds. Oh boy, was this thing fast. I was running the gun MUCH faster (and more accurately) than I have ever done before. In fact, I was running it so fast that my wife asked me what I was shooting.

The trigger did feel a little bit light to me so I measured it. It was right around 2.15-3.05. Hmmm, why is it so light I wondered. Then I remembered that I had Apex Tactical's competition striker spring in my gun. So I replaced that and measured the pull weight again. Right at 4LBS. Perfect.

Personally, I like my CCW and training guns to be between 4LBS and 5LBS. Apex has stiffer springs for those that need it over 5LBS (LE use).

My personal thought is that the average gun owner that really doesn't "tinker" with his guns and have the right tools should not install this trigger group. As mags mentioned, you can screw some stuff up (especially on the trigger pin that holds the trigger bar in place).

Unfortunately, both IDPA and USPSA have ruled this modification illegal for Stock and Production. Just a heads up for fellow competitors.

Correct. I view the trigger from a pure defensive use though.

Man I REALLY want this trigger but they said its not recommended for CCW. Wish I knew someone else with an M&P that I could con into buying it first ;)

Apex puts that disclaimer on their website because a lot of people don't know how to keep their booger picker out of the trigger guard.

There is nothing wrong with this trigger for CCW use. I would just make sure to have it set to 4LBS-5LBS (which is what I did).

Off topic, but what make/type of plus 2 mag extention is that in the pic in the original post?

Question. Did you change the Apex striker spring back to the factory spring to bring the trigger pull up?

Thanks for the great info. I've made some slight mods to my factory sear and striker block, but I'm going to go for the parts you recommend.

The back strap photo of your M&P with the nice Stipple job. Did you do the Stippleing or did you purchase the back strap from an outside vendor?. I sure do want one on my .45.

Nice review C4!

I just installed the FSS on my VTAC M&P and echo everything that you had experienced. My factory trigger broke at exactly 6.0 lbs. After the trigger install, take-up and overtravel was cut in half if not more and the trigger broke smooth and clean at 4.5lbs. As another 1911 lover, I would highly recommend this kit as well. I love how the wide/flat trigger feels! =)

Do you notice any difference in the feel of the center trigger safety insert versus the two piece trigger safety on the stock trigger?

Have you shot it yet and if so, did you notice that your shooting improved?

Thanks

I'd like to install this kit. I've also not been a fan of the factory hinged trigger. I currently have the Comp-AEK installed in my M&P(s). Can this be installed with that kit?
