Default Front sight misaligned from factory?

At the range Friday with my M&P 9 that I've owned about a month (or 700+ rounds--however you like to measure gun time) and decide to moveout to 15 yards from my usual 7 or so. All my shots were waaaay right. Nice grouping, but my neighbor's target was in danger. Then I noticed that the front sight was significantly offset to the left. 10 minutes at the McBride's Guns gunsmith bench solved that problem, but I'm curious if anyone has seen this from a factory new M&P or was mine just special?
