Default M&P the next shortage?

I went a local gun store today to get an M&P full size and there were hoards of people. I gave up and went to the largest gun store in the area and there was long line of people. The day before the line was 40 deep waiting for the door to open. The AR rifles are close to being gone and I couldn't even get up to the counter to see if there were any M&P's available. Is this going to be a problem? It looks like Oregon is trying to get a special session in congress to convert to laws at least as tough as California. It may be harder to get a full size M&P here than a Shield.

I say Glocks are more likely to sell out before M&P's but really any hi-cap pistol is likely to sell pretty fast in this market the way it is right now. I do not think that Glock is better then the M&P the only reason I think Glocks will get snapped up faster is because of the "Tacti cool" factor people seem to associate them with. Personally if given the Choice between a Glock 19, M&P 9mm or a Beretta 92. I take the Beretta 92

I've heard recently that NYPD is moving to the M&P for duty. That's GOTTA make getting one difficult. At least for a while. It is said that there are approximately 40,000 sworn officers at NYPD....

"AR15" style rifles are being bought up by folks who see the writing on the wall following the Connecticut shooting.

Many of the gun stores in my area are having anything with a mag larger than 10 rounds gobbled up currently. I was lucky enough to get my M&P9c today because I have gotten in good with a store close to my work.

I checked at budsgunshop.com yesterday and they had zero AR15s of any brand. BUT they had most (if not all) of the Glock models available. AR15 mags are going for $50 to $75 right now. ARs are selling for twice the MSRP on GB. Let's hope it calms down. When the ARs are gone everywhere (that's about where we are now) the crazies may focus on Glocks.

No offense intended, but what makes you think that if they (Oregon's State Legislator's) would make a change, that they would make them "at least as tough as California's"? Just asking as maybe you've heard something I've missed. Thanks,

I'm not sure if the M&P will get hard to find or not. That's why I went ahead and bought a M&P 9 to go with my M&P .22

This run on guns and ammo is crazy. The legislature hasn't even started any bills changing the gun laws. There will br quite a bit of discussion between the houses and the parties before they agree to changes. Then there will be a date set for when these laws are to take effect. So lets all run out and buy everything on the shelf, as the gun laws are going to change. sometime.

All this is doing is driving up the prices and creating shortages.

I will add that mags are going to be hard to find which they seem to be normally anyways. I bought a couple of extra mags from Midway USA and they are out of stock now.

I agree but it happens every time. Wait until this cools down and then stock up on you need.

The Connecticut shootings (tragedy) is gonna affect us all...we don't need any more restrictions or have certain firearms banned. Its gonna put more pressure on the compact carry weapon availability in my opinion.

Based upon past leglislative history, and current media support, we are looking at possibly anything from severe restrictions on guns and ammo to outright bans on ownership of certain classes firearms and magazines. Also, there is no assurance that our lawmakers will grandfather anything. Then agin, maybe this hysterial will all blow over.

Only because there are more people who want to carry. People are seeing that they need to take care of their own safety when out and about.

I don't think anything will happen nationally. The Republicans hold the house and I don't think they'll pass anything gun related. However, I do think the states will pass something. In Iowa we just got shall issue a couple years ago. However, the Dems now want to pass legislation so restricting carrying of weapons that we might as well not even have it.

I ordered and received 42 of the M&P full sized pistols with 3 hi-cap mags each for an agency this week and got them within 3 days, and it had nothing to do with it being an agency sale.

There are plenty of them, don't worry.

I was referring to magazine capacity and probably making some other assumptions. Oregon is the closest northern neighbor to California and they often take the lead in liberal issues. All you have to do is listen to the radio right now to see that many are advocating gun bans.

I'm in the works for a Glock, my step brother can get me a LEO/military discount. Was going to go for the 19, but with the current possibility of the mag BS, prolly gonna do a 17 first....

Just got a M&P 40 Full Size this past Tuesday, took over an hour for the man to get through to the call center for my back ground check. once he got through less than 5 minutes to get the AOK for my purchase.

Also I stopped at two stores before finding that gun and they were all mobbed with people buying anything that looked like it was going to get banned.

Must say I love my new pistol it is my first NEW pistol and my first S&W, fan for life, used to love Glock's no longer the case. Something about the grip it just feels, well it just feels right.

We all need to keep writing our congressional reps. expressing our objections to more gun laws! The more noise we make the more it will tend to offset the gun control folks who are writing. Don't sit on the sidelines this time!

I noted yesterday that the online source where I bought mags for my M&P full size (10 rounders) had no M&P mags, period. Don't know if that is because of the recent demand, or for other reasons. 10 round mags were legal during the last flirtation with draconian laws.

Even before this tragedy in Connecticut, I checked my favorite online private firearms listings the day after the election. I noted a seller in the Midwest listed his M&P 15, nothing special such as as decent optics or a jillion mags or a boat load of ammo for $1300 m - about $350-400 over priced in my opinion. The run was starting even before this incident. Now its even worse.

Midway has 17rd 9mm mags in stock if that's what you are looking for.

Bottom line... "Chicken Little yelled the sky is falling" and everyone believed the hipe and/are panicking... It'll just take awhile for the hipe to blow over (AGAIN). Then how many people are going to be stuck with WAY over priced weapons and can't get their money back ?????

This should be a big concern for all gun owners. If they don't 'grandfather' it would become a felony to own it (mags, guns, accessories) after the turn in date. If caught, it would make us law abiding citizens felons (and the monetary cost of the firearm or accessory lost). Also, all they really have to do is to heavily regulate the sale of ammo and make our guns a big 'paper weight'. I see the writing on the wall and we are in for a big fight on this one.

I've noticed the same....Fisherman's---OUT, Gun Broker---OUT, NW Sports---OUT.

Glad I got mine when I did, but extra magazines are also extremely hard to come by as well.
