Hi!

I just got my M&P 9mm a few weeks ago, and noticed a hole on top of the slide, right behind the barrel. Stupid question, but what is this for? It's almost as if it looks like a 'vent' hole.

Thanks!

Yup... Loaded Chamber Indicator.
Some have the Pop-Up bar and others have the witness hole.
There are pics of both types in your manual.

BTW, the extractor does give a small tactile loaded chamber indication too.

Safety

Might do to read the manual that came with it? No offense. Just bought a .40 FS last month and still find stuff in it that I just glanced over.

The hole is there as has been said as an indicator for round on chamber. This is required in some states to be "compliant" like MA and CA to name two so they can be sold there.

nope

I looked at the manual and could not find a reference to what I'm talking about. I think many people here mistaken me.

If you look at the manual...

In Figure 9 on page 14, the red arrow is poing to the indicator that shows if a round is in the barrel. If you look at figure 9, in the absolute lower-left hand corner of the picture, there's something there. That's what I'm talking about.

Now maybe it is a pop up indicator. I could see that. I think many that responded mistaken me.

Your all wrong. It where you pour the powder in and then push the wick in. What manual you been reading?

That's the pin that holds the extractor in place. If you pound that out, your extractor will come off.

"maybe you should get a refund before you get hurt". I apologize for my comment. Being a 1st time owner, I read and re-read the manual before I even took possession of my m&p 40. Then I took a safety class before I even thought about firing it. I joined this forum for advice also.

ya know, i would expect derogatory comments from a lot of other forums, but not this one. Some of these responses are ridiculous. The good thing about forums like this is that people come here for HELP and usually there are people here to help them, not belittle them. I could break down the make up of a polypeptide chain and make you feel stupid when you asked a question about what I was trying to explain to you.

oh, and broccoli

Hopefully the next time you have a question people that actually want to help you will chime in before you get ridiculed over asking a good question. Sorry this was one of your first experiences on the forum.

Some are getting a little too uptight. The OP was answered correctly to the question that was asked. After seeing several posts that answered correctly the hole on top of the slide was the sight hole, I added a little levity into the thread. The OP now has clarified the original question and it has again been correctly answered as the extractor/extractor pin. I do not see any post ridiculing the OP at all.
