I typically use the 2 extended round magazines that I have for my Shield and have no problem with them seating into the frame well with all 8 rounds in them. Tonight was the first night I attempted to put in the 7 round flush fitting mag into my shield with 7 rounds in it and it fits very poorly and took a lot of force for it to lock in. It didn't even feel right once I forced it to lock in. I then tried the mag empty and it seats better and with 6 rounds it seats better. It is only having an issue when it has the 7 rounds in it. Has anyone else had an issue. I would assume its just a bad magazine?

Most people have this issue with the 7 round magazine when fully loaded. Just takes some extra force to get it to lock in but it should work fine. Must be something with the design of the mag.

Lock the slide back and then try to seat the mag. Sometimes the mag spring makes seating a fully loaded mag difficult with the slide forward.

The reason it's so hard is because the top round has to be pushed farther down by the slide. If you remove the slide, insert a loaded magazine, you will see how far up the top round actually goes into the slide area. This just means the magazine spring has to be compressed that much more. It's not a problem, just something you have to consider when inserting that fully loaded 7 rounder. The 8 round mags have a little more space at the bottom, which allows the spring to compress more, making it easier to insert and lock the mag inside the gun.

I have the same issues with my Shield 7 round flush magazine. I believe it comes with owning a sub compact. Larger weapons have more wiggle room.

If you look at pictures of the Shield on this forum loaded you will notice the magazine plate does not seat perfectly flush and a little silver from the magazine will be noticeable.

Good to know that this issue is "normal".

I have this issue with my 8 rnd mags. Haven't tried the 7 rnd mag yet.

Loading a full mag on the Shield is not as easy as a FS firearm. I just am EXTREMELY wary about slamming the bottom of the magazine with my palm. Thinking that I'd pinch my pinky on my shooting hand.

I feel similar about my 380BG, but I can push the magazine in with a finger easier than the Shield.

Just slam it in. They all do it. The mag follower is bottoming out, the top round is pressing against the bottom of the slide. It usually gets better the more you use it. The follower has some legs that bottom out on the mag floor. These legs will compress with use. Some have filed/sanded/trimmed the legs a touch to ease the tension.

When you insert the magazine for the day, just hold the gun by the slide, insert the magazine and bring your hands together to seat it like you're crushing a pop can. That's what I do with my 40c.

Yep... that's what I do with my 9mm shield.

It takes force to seat the mag, but once in, no problems...

i actually have the opposite experience, it is easier for me to put in my 7 rounder than it is my 8 rounder.

Then the three round New York Mag should slip in real easy! Right? What a sore spot!!! I will never again step foot in New York!!!!!

New to the forums here. The issue with seating a seven round mag., Just watched a video where the poster snipped 5 links off the 7 round spring and gets the 8th round in the mag. Seat hard like before, but my thought is ,and let me know if anyone has checked, are the springs in the 7 rd and 8 rd mags the same length ? If so snipping 5 links off gives room for one more round in the 7 rd. mag. He cycles 10 full mags ,and a couple with one already in the tube, with no issues..
Any thoughts ? Thanks

cut 5 links off the spring and not only will it load easier it will hold 8 rounds. Or use a Magguts kits. I had the same issue until I modified my 7 round.

Got a quick question for somebody in the know is the shield a 7+1 and 8+1 I'm still waiting on mine so I'm asking the question. appreciate it thanks.

7 to 8 round spring change

Just an FYI, I did a search for a replacement spring for the 7 round magazine, and they list the same spring for the 8 round as well. Both have the same spring. So shortening the spring for the 7 round mag should be no big deal.
