Is the Streamlight TLR-4 Laser/Light combo any good?

My brother just got an M&P 9mm compact and wants a light for HD. He was looking at getting either the S&W Micro90 or the Streamlight TLR-3. Well after reading up on the TLR-3 he came across the TLR-4 with the laser/light combo. We've read some negative reviews about the polymer plastic bracket breaking either while hand tightening and or firing the gun at the range. I did notice that the negative reviews seem to be the older reviews from a couple years back and all the recent reviews seem to be positive. Just wondering if Streamlight maybe resolved the issue. Have any of you ever used the TLR-4 or Micro90 or TLR-3?

Thanks for the input.

I own both the TLR-4 and the S&W Micro90. I've had zero issues with both. I've mounted the TLR-4 on my M&P 9fs. I prefer to have the light/laser on my primary home defense firearm. I'll take every unfair advantage possible. The controls on the TLR-4 are easy to operate.

The Micro90 throws out a strong beam, and does the job. I have one mounted on my back-up, a Ruger P95. I also have one mounted to a Magpul scout mount rail on my AR-15. The Micro90 has held up fine. The Micro90 is very ambi friendly. There are two push buttons on either side of the light. Push down and hold either button and the light is on, let go and the light turns off. There is a constant on rocker switch on the bottom, left or right is constant on ; middle is off. I have a third that is not currently mounted.

If you have the funds, a TLR-4 with the laser packs in more unfair advantages from the bad-guy perspective. If you're tight on funds, the Micro90 sometimes comes up on sale and is ultra affordable. I think I paid $35 for mine, and I own three Micro 90's.

My TLR-4 has lived on a few Glocks and now an M&P 357. It's 100% reliable.
