This is the Deal: I love the Shield. :) Mine is in 9mm and is great! Having put about 1,000 rounds down range I took some time to upgrade. This is what I did:

Smith & Wesson Shield Pro i-dot AmeriGlo night sights. Green single dot rear night sight (U nothch rear), Green with Orange Outline front night sight. The Orange jumps out at you are you bring it up.

Trigger: Apext M&P Shield Carry Kit:

Apex Fully Machined Sear, Ultimate Striker Block Kit (Striker Block, Spring & Talon Tactical Rear Sight Tool) & Shield Spring Kit (Trigger Return Spring, Shield Slave Pin & Sear spring).

Results: Reduced trigger pull weight to about 5.7lbs, over travel and reset are now right on each time and rest from the Striker Block Kit is great. Gun has a much smoother uptake and reset.

This is a DIY drop in trigger and the video they give on the web is great. Worth the time and effort.

Thanks for the update. What did you use to install the sights?

MGW Sight Tool made just for the Shield. I just used a lighter to heat the factory lock-tite on the set screw, removed it and then put CLP on both the front and rear. After an hour or so of soaking I used the tool and they came off without a mark to the slide or the factory sight. New sight went on without an issue. Like all things in the life, the right tool helps.

How do you like those sights? I may put them on my Shield, in fact, I may do all of those mods to mine... All I have right now is that damn LaserMax laser, should have gotten a CTC.

On a scale of 1-5 what would you rate your experience at for installing the Apex Kit. 1 - never worked on a gun before. 5 - gunsmith.

What's your issue with the LaserMax laser?

That's the SW-245 sight set right? Looks nice, I may try it on one of my Shields. I won't attempt the install myself though. I'll leave that to the professionals lol

I like them very much. The front sight jumps out at you in that color. :D

With the Right Tools I put the job at at 2.5. Watch the video several times and look a a blow up of the gun on paper...can find on line...not hard at all if you take your time.

Use the Right Sight Tool if you are going to remove the sight. I didn't use a punch like the one seen in the video...I used the MGW Shield specificicicic sight tool.

It is the MGW Shield Sight tool. They sell it at AmriGlo put I'm sure you can get from Midway or others....But get the one made for the S&W Shield. If you lived near So. Cal I'd just let you use mine.

Can you recommend the "right tools" for the Apex trigger job? Thanks!

Thanks! Haven't had a chance to watch video yet. But I'm inspired to undertake a DIY project on my Shield!

No matter how tight I tighten the screw closest to the front of the muzzle, the damn plastic housing doesn't seem to meet up:mad: Don't get me wrong, it looks cool as hell. I need to mess with it a lil bit more, it doesn't help that they're phillips head screws as opposed to allen head or hex:(

Dont forget another "do it yourself" upgrade.

Convert either caliber to the other. 2 guns in 1 is better than just 1, lol

Take your screw to Lowes/HD/ACE and ask for the hex head in the same size and thread count. Make sure you get a "harden" shaft if you can for that screw and that the thread is the same.

What tools were needed? I only saw the 1/16th punch in the video.
Oh and a delrin hammer.
